suggestion on 12" subs in a ported box

Recommended Posts

He's missing out on a lot of music with a tune that high. Some people have their subwoofer's low pass filter at 60-65 hz. That would give you 10 hz of usable range. Basically worthless IMO.

My LP is below his tuning lol.

They can be wired either way, 1.34 and 3 ohms:

yea that was the website i was talking about, but the box builder says that that is bs and that it can only be wired into a 1.33 ohm load because wired the way the12volt shows ya wont work, and if ya look at the jlaudio wiring diagram it don't show a 3 ohm load only 1.33 and something even lower

who is building your box? He's not very knowledgeable. If you parallel wire each driver, they become 1 ohm. Then if you series each driver to the amp, it becomes 1 + 1 + 1 = 3 ohms.

also im debating on what to go with one installer says subs firing towards the rear deck and aero ports towards the trunk should be louder, but the other one wants to go subs/port facing trunk slot port style but space is tight and im questioning on how hes gonna fit decent size ports in there that way (he says 2 slot ports 1 on top 1 on bottom)

Guess and check is the only answer.

What vehicle is this going in, I wouldnt let the box builder build this box since he thinks they cant be wired a certain way (there is no right way to place a box since it is all vehicle and install dependent). Either he is only knowledgeable in one or two small areas of car audio or just doesnt know what he is doing, most people who do installs are only experienced or skilled in certain aspects of the field and idustry instead of trying to grasp all aspects of it (thats what Im trying to do know, get a better grasp of the entire field which I know it will take years to do and I got time and dedication). Just my .02

I just took out my 3-12 Kicker CVX's D2 ohms and I had mine wired to 1.34 just never did it the 3 ohm way since I didnt have an amp with good amounts of power at 3 ohms.

With three 12s I would do neither. I would fire forward and seal off the trunk behind the front baffle.

yea i'm not trying to keep going on with this thread but, you know i don't got alot of money so switching setups all the time is getting expensive, I seen in the fisher customs builds they did subs firing towards the trunk port to the side, of course with 3 10s 34" wide is pretty much minimum if i'm not mistaken which pretty much would make the port only like 1" away from the quarterpanel, subs towards the trunk and port towards the trunk I will have the problem of only like 13" of height so i'd have some really skinny ports lol if i could even do that, I don't know i'm stumped as to how to get this thing loud yet sound good, with my wall it seemed like it was alot louder at first but the port was the only thing bracing it and i can tell the port has gotten tore up cause the box would be flexing like crazy, another thing is i'm debating on what to with my electrical throw a yellowtop in the trunk or what. I'm just kinda annoyed with some of the installers around here because they want to do the old "yea these subs ain't any good blah blah blah brand x would destroy them" maybe i could put i bandpass in there somehow ported through the rear deck or something i don't know

i have a 2000 mustang and i had to unbolt the rear seats and the bracket that holds the rear seat, just to get my box in., i had 3 RFosgate HE 10"s in a sealed box, firing inside the cabin, box angle with the back seat, and sealed off from the trunk.

Well subs are in my opinion low's arent as loud as the q's, highs arent as loud as the cvx's but overall seems to be more musical than either one of those two =), For Example, Lil Wyte, Choppa on the Backseat off The one and only, it has 2 sub bass notes alternating with the kickers the higher freq was crazy loud and the low note barely audible with the Q's it was the opposite, with the ssd's neither are as loud but it picks up the low's way better than the kicker's and the highs way better than the q's
