suggestion on 12" subs in a ported box

Recommended Posts

Alright so ive decided to take out the 15" q's entirely, and put my back seat back in and get 2 12" subs which will be ported max space is 4.0 cubes, amp is 1200 watts rms at 4 ohm's , 1500 watts at 2 ohms, and its not rated at 1 ohm but i have ran it at one ohm for a couple months on and off with no problems, I have a opima yellowtop up front, and am about to put a kinetik in the trunk,

Anyway subs need to be loud but not all out spl and under 350 a piece suggestions??? I want i dont want a one note wonder

So many choices! If I were you, I would go to the SSA store and look at all the options available!

SSA - Icon

Sundown - SA-12

Incriminator - Lethal Injection

Mach 5 - IXL

yea the box is most likely gonna be around 3.5 cubes @ 33hz keep that in mind

I would love it if you bought the Icon's, but have you considered going sealed with your current drivers? The Fi Q's do very well in sealed enclosures.

Can be smaller, with a slot port box

Maybe you can try a sealed box?

Or only one 12" Xcon, you already have the power and well enough space. (that would leave you some money to buy...what you want!!!)

scratch that 3.5 cubes at 39hz, sub needs to be optimum in 1.75 cubes ported

Sundown SA-12, matches nicely for your power and sundowns do pretty well in smaller enclosures. 39 hz is on the high side of tuning though, I thought this was a daily streat-beater?

oh, another good idea would be to do a single 15 ported. you do already have Q's, and especially if you have the BP power option, a single Q 15 should handle that 1500 watts all day long.

to reply to the last guy, i had a half wall no ive decided to put my backseat back, after hearing one of my friends setups with a saz 3000d, two bat caps, 2 audioque 12's tuned to 52hz ive decided that maybe higher tuning might be nice

52 HZ? That's really high.

BTW I have a Brand New AudioQue HDC3 12" for sale.

He's missing out on a lot of music with a tune that high. Some people have their subwoofer's low pass filter at 60-65 hz. That would give you 10 hz of usable range. Basically worthless IMO.

Exactly what I was thinking. Tuning that high would sound like :bull: . The REAL Bass notes are probably not even audible at that point. It's like using mid's for the highs. :suicide-santa:

I'm not totally sure but i think he has his highpass set way below 52hz and since his sub's can handle a insane amount of power they just handle it below the tuning freq but i could be wrong

Anyway I know everyone doesn't like doing the this vs that but , how does the sundown sa12 sound compared to the mach 5 ixl 12 ported version? which handles more power? and what coil config's are they available in because i will be ordering later today

can a pair of either one of them handle a SAZ 3000D daily? if not what about a audioque 2200?

2 12" xcons will handle 3k watts daily with ease.

I will love to do that in my car!!!peepwall.gif

It would be insane!!!!!!

xcons are way outta my price range, I'm pretty much looking at mach 5 ixl 12 ported version vs sundown sa12, from someones experiance which has the higher spl 2.83v 1m?, sounds better, and what handles more power?

Heck for a while, I did not have my subs coming in until 53hz.

well ive decided to get 3 mach 5 ixl 10s but for some reason i cant get the order form to work, and i was wondering what would the wiring options be with 2 amps and 3 dual 1 ohm, or 3 dual 2 ohm like 1 amp wiried to 3 coils and the other amp wiried to 3 coils?

I would personally get the D2 version and wire all them in series and then together they will drop to 1.3333 ohms and just use them on 1 amp that is 1 ohm stable, just my .02.

I agree. Series wire each sub's voice coils then parallel wire the subs together to maintain a stable load for a 1 ohm amp.

alright well i finally place my order for 3 FI SSD's 10s w/ flatwind option, will be powered by a jbl gto14001 wired at 3 ohms pushing somewhere around 1300 rms. Will 3 ssd's handle a audioque 2200 in a ported box something like 3 cubes after displacement?

Yeah an Audioque 2200D will do fine on them if thats the amp route you want to go with, just make sure you get dual 2 ohm version so you can get the most out of subs and amp.
