Smart config for SQ using Mmats D3500.5 amp

Recommended Posts

Hey I want amazing SQ. I have a Infiniti G37 coupe & would perfer using 1 sub. I already have a Mmats amp d3500.5 Watts & have me eyes set on a q10

watts @ .5 ohms mono 1 X 2700

Watts @ 1 ohms mono 1 X 1500

Watts @ 2 ohms mono 1 X 800

Signal to Noise Ratio A-Wtd: <85dB

Total Harmonic Distortion: 0.3%

Mostly I listen to Metal never any rap. So below a kick drum is were I want my F3. Any idea what my volume needs to be? I'm considering running at 1 ohm in the hopes that it will be cleaner & more precise.

Any ideas?

You don't need anywhere near that power for SQ. Skip the box, run IB, and worry mostly about your front stage.

the only time I've heard free air is in stock oem systems. Can they soud clean & tight now? I admit most of my knowledge is very dated. It would be lovely to not use a box but I've always run 2 12" in a sealed box. Tring a single 10 was a huge step for me.

IB is not free air. And clean & tight for sure, better than any other alignment. You'll have to have your gains near off though.

If you're set on the Q, get the DVC 1 ohm model and wire it down to 2 ohms. Generally there is less distortion at higher impedance's.

I think you would be very happy with a sealed Q if you are not familiar with IB installs, but for the best SQ setup an IB3 12" would probably work quite nice

infinite baffle is popular nowdays for sq? I haven’t kept up since the 90s & always sealed was the only way to go then. I take it supremely detailed prep of my trunk is the key to a iB install eh? Is Fi q still a right choice? How the hell do you takle the problem of fold down rear seats?

I want to hear some ideas besides my local guys who have to push what they sale no matter what. I'm also set on using 2 10s as the MMats what kill anything less than 1 spl type sub.

Thanks!!

check out this forum for SQ. absolute best SQ team/designers/products in the world. Maybe a biased opinion, but the trophies prove it. check out some of Scott Buwalda's builds, he's a multi-SQ world champion, and many of his SQ setups are 2 or 3 IB woofers in the sound deck. yes, a well prepped trunk is basically key. the Q won't work in IB, but fi does make an actual IB woofer the IB3.

here's the link to the forum, lotta smart guys on here too, just that this forum really focuses on pure SQ and many would agree Team Hybrid is the elite in the SQ lanes!

take the time to go through a couple of the Team Hybrids builds, I'm sure you will find them quite impressing all the work they do :)

Install is the key though. Personally I am not a fan of Scott's drivers. Not that they don't sound good, but for the price I'd spend my money elsewhere. Note I am not at all knocking his install capabilities as he has proven those to the nth.

I agree with John, no need to run it at 1 ohm, the power at 2 ohm is plenty.
