Single Reflex Bandpass Enclosures

I'm not 100% sure that I'll say all of this right, but I'm going to wing it.

Let's just say you want to build a single reflex bandpass box, but you want to use a sub that isn't recommended for sealed enclosures. How do you find out how large to make the sealed part of the enclosure?
