SSD 12 or 18?

Recommended Posts

I was originally looking at getting a SSD 18, but it seems like a lot of people have SSD 12s instead of the 18s.

Is the 12 better or something ? I would assume that the 18 would get louder, and that is what im going for. Im not really entirely sound quality.

I was also wondering if anyone had any good box specifications for a SSD 18.

Box specs are in the tech section as well as on the website on the tech section...

The 18 has a bit more displacement...via surface area. 1210 cm^2 vs 960cm^2 for the 12's...

It really comes down to how much room you have to work with and power that you have available.

Thanks!

If You Want Loud, You Might Want To Get A BL.

The SSD Series Is Damn Near A Full Blown SQ Woofer, Is Has Great Low End But The Top End Falls Off A Bit. (50hz And Up.)

Actually, Loud To You And Loud To Me May Be Two Different Things, Go Ahead And Try The SSD. The Reason Why You See More People Ruuning Smaller Sized Woofers Is Because They Just Don't Have The Space And/Or Airspace For An 18", As Funny As It Sounds, They CAN Be Impractical. Smaller Sizes Are Also Used Often In SQ Applications.

whats your budget? and power you are planing to run? i vote 2 12s flat coil because they can handle more power than one 18, even tho the 18 moves more air.

Well the SSD 18 is pretty much my budget limit. I might be able to put a little more money into it, but I don't think i can really afford anything that is $300. Maybe like $275 max. I don't really have to much to spend on the sub. I'm not positive I will have the room for it yet either. But I will find out as soon as I can.

Power wise I will probably be pushing like a little of above 800 RMS to it. I'm not positive on my amp yet. Maybe you guys have some recommendations ? Sorry, I just don't want to underpower,or overpower.

And the loudest I have heard really might not be to much. My friend has two 12" MTX and 2 10" ALs (they suck I know) in a sealed box and they sound louder than anything I have heard, but I don't know how much dB they are pushing.

I just want the loudest for the money really, and of course some SQ.

No such thing as underpower and you can easily turn the gain down so overpowering is only a knob away from not being an issue.

IMO it makes ZERO sense to shop for a sub without knowing exactly how much space you have.

No you don't. Read the noob guidelines. :(

Yea I understand. I am just a little ahead of myself.

But I actually figured out what car I'm getting.

I'm sure if I put the back seats down I can fit an 18" in there no problem.

You do realize that 10cuft isn't a particularly small box. Will it fit, sure, but you won't really have a whole lot of space left for anything else.

Yes I do. There isn't really anything else I'm fitting in the car. Plus, my box probably won't be 10cuft. Probably 7 or so.

7cuft + wood + sub + port is going to be at least 10cuft

actually, it is almost exactly 10 cuft, if you use about 12 sq. in. of port per cube, good number off the top of your head M5... lol I just happen to have a box 7.2 cuft airspace, and with port and everything, it is actually just over 10 cuft, but i have double walls...bracing...etc..

and when you are saying "SQ" as most people you really just want something as loud as possible that doesn't like a sony xplod.

May Want To Think About A More Practical Setup If You Actually Want To Keep Your Back Seats, You'd Be Better Removing Them.

...Unless You Want The Surround To Hit The Roof.
