2 12" FI Q's..........what amp would you all reccomend??

Recommended Posts

Like the title says I am looking to put 2 12" FI Q's in my 05 ford focus. Ive never built a box but plan on trying to build this one haha. Any recommendation anyone has that would power these 2 well would be great. I currently have a 12 w3v3 hooked up to a TMA 500.1 amp (think thats right). The new box can be either ported or sealed, as i don't mind going across the entire width of the trunk, i will however need to leave the first foot and a half or so of the trunk open for my golf bag( plus room for flex? or mount up?). Thanks for your time guys.

well first state your goals? like dialy driver or like spl show. also have you considered the need for a secondary battery and the big 3? also what kind a space do you have? i would recommend ported for big boom and sealed for sound quality! so now you need to aks your self! are you a kid who just goes around rattling your trunk? lol!!

other then that have you thought about sound deadener? as for an amp i would recommend how about a....SAE1200? lol!! killer ppower!

other then that are you on a budget?

AND a BIG welcome to the SSA forums! the home of the most knowledgeable ppl on car audio stuff there is! ;) it might take a bit for them to chime in but when they do open the flood gates lol!!

again welcome to the forum and don't hesitate to give the NOOB POSTING GUIDE a quick read so you don't piss off admins!

so first things first!

1. what are your goals

2. buget?

3. have you thought about power (electrical) upgrades?

4. Welcome! and enjoy your say and feel free to ask any and all questions!!

Its going to be an everyday setup. I like the LOUD BOOM BOOM of SPL but really want it to hit well across the whole spectrum and clean. Im looking to spend up to 400-500 range for the amp, more if you all think that maybe needed but in that range if possible . I am going to do the big 3 in my car, but don't know enough about audio yet to figure out what i should get for the others. As for space, i can go the whole width of the trunk which should be around 44" or so side and maybe up to 2 feet give or take front to back.

You should look into a h/o alt also for that. It helps.

If you're looking for boom boom, maybe you should choose another sub? The Q's can certainly be loud.

A single 12 or 15 ported can be enough because the trunk of the Focus is not so big.

I understood that with more than 1200-1500 watts rms you need big electrical upgrades, but you're lucky : you have an american car in the USA : you can find everything you need!! It should be easy to find HO alternator for your car! Take advantage of that!!!

Tell us what you decide!

x2 electricle upgrades will be necessary

look into Sundown for amplifers (SAZ 2000D)

that would treat those Q's quite nice :drink40:

Way more than his budget, I would suggest the SAE-1200D which is on sale now and very underrated or the Sundown SAZ-1500D which is $500 and very underrated. Both of these amps will push those subwoofers nicely, get the Dual 1 ohm version.

well with that kind a budget jsut get teh SAE 1200d from the above link i have posted. the SAE1200d (v1) did about 1700rms plus and the sae1200d (v2 the link i am refering to) is so much more and really beffed up!!

other then that do the big 3 first, get a second battery (maybe a xs power 5400 or kinetih hc 1400) and if your electrical still suck and dips below 12.4 then go with a H/O (high output alt) for your car!!

here is the big 3 on youtube :)

enjoy and be sure to take a ton of pics and maybe a video of everything!! as for learnign that comes with the install and making mistakes! we all learn from mistakes!! but try not ot make them b/c they could be costly! lol!

other then that you said something like a single 12? well if you want a big boom go with 2-12's or 1-15inch sub and i thikn you will be pleased with that setup!! and forward fire it into the cab and have the port in the same direction as the sub! you can simply use the RE CALC to build a box with! it worked for me and my first 15inch sub!

http://www.reaudio.com/speaker_box/LPort_Box_Calc.html

just plug in what you know and what you don't know ask us and we can help you out! and the calc does the rest! (just fill in the RED numbers)

enjoy and get back to us with an update!

If you are fixed on the Fi Q, the above mentioned Sundown SAZ-2000D would be a very nice choice for a pair.

k i guess I can open this up to suggestions for different subs as well. How are the ssd's? I just don't want to get something and be like "damn why didn't i just spent the extra little bit." But if the difference is minimal then i might like the ssd's as well. Also any other subs you all would recommend around the same price point as those 2 would be greatly appreciated thanks everyone.

It isn't about a minimal difference it is about buying something that fits your goals. You are NOT a Q buyer. If you are only shopping Fi you'd be served much better by the BL or even the BTL.

x2, Id vote for 2 12" FI BL's or 15" FI BTL in your case.
