Ascendant Audio Mayhems?

Recommended Posts

Ok I am planning on getting 2 Fi BTLs Dual 1Ohm, and running them to a Sundown 3500D, but I seen the Mayhems and started thinking, I know you cant really hear the difference, but Im looking for the most, should I get two Dual 1 and run them to a 4500D?

the box will be 2.5^3, 32-34hz IDEALLY. Electrical will be big 3, not sure if I 1 or 2 XS3100s, should run around 13+V(you get the point), 220A HO alt. Budget : $7500, gotta love the army bonuses.

SO yea, (2) 12" Ascendant Audio Mayhems on a Sundown 4500D running a 1Ohm load, .5ohm for comps :), or (2) 12" Fi BTLs running on a Sundown 3500D at 1Ohm, .5 for comps?

Ok my first goal when I wanted a system is just to have loud and SQ(which doesnt exist past like 2kW they say), I had 2 Rs running at 500wrms each and loved them, then a friend got two Xs and hes runnin 2000wrms and Im just trying to be louder than him.. :) I want to run as much power as I can in the trunk. Id also prefer to keep the back seat, which is why Im choosing 12s. I know 12s fit into a lincoln ls

Also, just as a side note, I may have that kinda money, but doesnt mean I wanna making it a point to spend it all, Im just sayin.. I know someone would pop in and be like well which ones cheaper or something, and Im not worried about cost within limits.

How are you going to wire the same subs to both .5 and 1 ohm? It can't be done.

Id wire the voice coils in series on each sub for a 2ohm sub, then run them parellel to the amp for 1 ohm load, then switch boxes, and switch wiring setups :) Im not gonna use a 32Hz box for comps.

That will NOT work. It is impossible to get a .5 and 1 ohm load out of the same sub without buying the universal option on the btls. You need to make your box much bigger because you are choking those subs. They need 1.75-3 cu ft EACH. Btw if you dont plan on doing comps the extra 1000 watts is not going to make that big of a difference. You will not be able to audibly tell much of a difference.

Take some steps back and really plan this because your all over the place (just because you have to money for it now doesnt mean you should blow it). How much trunk space do you have to work with, give us max dimensions of trunk room if you cant figure it out.

Dual 1 ohm Subwoofer Wiring:

Parallel = .5 ohms (.25 ohms)

Series = 2 ohms (1 ohms)

Dual 2 ohm Subwoofer Wiring:

Parallel = 1 ohm (.5 ohms)

Series = 4 ohms (2 ohms)

Dual 4 ohm Subwoofer Wiring:

Parallel = 2 ohms (1 ohm)

Series = 8 ohms (4 ohms)

In Parenthesis is the ohm load when using 2 woofers with the same voice coil configuration.

ok thats what I meant, 2.5^ft each, forgot to put that. but yea the +500wrms(1kwrms total) difference.. so would it be worth it?

Thanks for the chart, but if I wire the voice coils up on one sub to make that sub a 2ohm load(series) then do the same with the other, that would give me a 1ohm load to the amp, which is what I want.. But as far as trunk dimensions, I had 2 12s in there before, I KNOW these will fit as long as the internal volume is 2.5, my cars a lincoln LS 01, and how am I all over? I want the 1ohm load to the amp, so do I get the BTLs or the Mayhems, would it be worth the extra $500 MAYBE to get the more powerful amp and subs? I know not to 'blow' this money, which Im not. I just know you pay for what you get and asking if the little bit of extra cash would be worth it in the long run.

You said you would have them at 1 ohm and wire them to .5 ohm for competition. That is why he is saying you are all over the place.

The power is not going to make much of a difference compared to your enclosure. You should spend the extra money on strengthening your enclosure with bracing.

You also want your enclosure as large as possible so if you could take dimensions of your trunk that would be a smart idea.

I have never heard the btls or mayhems but I was told the mayhems sound better than the btls but have a little bit less output. If you want your system to sound like ass and just be loud then get the btls.

Also what are you running for a front stage? You might want to consider spending the extra money on a better front stage.

I would like to clarify that at low output levels, the BTL sounds fairly well. It's definitely not what you'd put in an sq setup, but it sounds good :)

so then the Mayhems have better quality? I want loud but I dont want it to sound like straight ass.. you know what Im saying? And I cant get exact dimensions right now, Im overseas but I go home soon, I know 2.5^ft ea would work, but bigger Im not 100% sure. and what should I use for bracing? I was told just using the best glue and screws plus 1" MDF would be good?

Why havent you considered going with the xcons off a 3500d? The xcons sound great and get loud. It will be much louder than your friends type xs and will sound better too. You will have him beat in output and sq.

For bracing you might want to run dowels and corner bracing. Also you might want to do a double baffle. Too much bracing is better than too little.

Because those arent as powerful, I want to win some dB comps too, so if I get the Mayhems I should be able to.. And alright thanks, Ill definitely do that.. doesnt sound like a bad idea.

The speaker does not produce any power. ;) But your goals point you towards the BTL's or Mayhems.

Ha thanks, I know where Im going just half-baked plan :) but yea, which one in your opinion? BTL or Mayhem?

I am running xcons and I plan on winning competitions :peepwall:

Its not that, Im just looking for the absolute loudest with the best quality possible, if that makes sense. Im pretty sure that the decibel difference from the xcons to the mayhems is noticeable. By NO means am I slandering or insulting, just for my wants/needs I want/need as many watts flowing through my subs as possible... Im weird like that. I think Im gonna go with Mayhems, the 4500D and 1 XS3100, would that work for what my goals are?

Ya. You should be fine with that. The mayhems will sound better than the btls. What are you running for a front stage?

Really, flip a coin IMO. Both are well built drivers and both have serious potential to get very very loud. The BTL can be customized to your needs if that helps.
