Anyone know about MA Audio HK1997?

My friend has this amplifier, and I've been looking on various websites, and everywhere says it does 1200 watts RMS into 2 ohms, anyone know if this is true? Because I can get this amplifier for very cheap, it has a problem though....

It doesn't turn off.

As soon as we connected the negative wire, it turned on, remote wire wasn't even hooked into the amplifier yet.

But anyways, does this thing really do 1200 watts RMS into 2 ohms?

If it has a problem where it never goes off then I damn sure wouldnt want it in my car (drawing power continously to eventually drain your battery). You should look into something else cheap and new but I wouldnt get that because it will be cheap now but may cause you all kind of problems in the future which probably wont be cheap to fix. Just my .02

When you hooked it up did you have the rca's connected.

Well obviously I plan on fixing the amplifier before I use it, and if I can't fix it then I'll use a high power relay.

And yes, I had the RCAs plugged in, but unplugging them made no difference, and it wouldn't output audio until we hooked up the remote wire, which is strange because the amplifier was already on.

But I'll figure it out before I actually use it.

Anyone know what the real ratings are?

Just dont use it, repairing it and making sure it works at the end of the day and how long is not worth it. I would just buy a reliable amp, used or new that will get the job done. What equipment do you need to amp for, Im assuming a certain rms at 2 ohms?

I don't have the money for a new amplifier, that's why I'm getting this one, I can even fix it before I buy it, I'm almost certain theres something shorting it out and it could take about 5 minutes to fix. If not, like I said, I'll just use a relay, it's all I can afford.

As of right now, it looks like I'm gonna be getting either this amplifier, or a 1000 watt Crunch that has bad solder on the RCAs, but if this one is 1200RMS, I'd much rather get it.

It will probably be powering an older Orion XTR 12, DVC 4 ohms, 800 Watts RMS.

Do you just need a temporary amp to get you by until you buy something else than I can help you. Its not much but I have a Profile California AP1200 that does 200Rms(a little more than that) x 2 @ 2ohms for $40 plus shipping. But if you know what your doing then go ahead. I do remember that MA Audio usually rated there amps at 17.8volts, 14.4volts and 12.5volts and the first number they usually list is at that 17.8volts if I remember correctly.

Well I'm not expecting to get a ton out of it, only about 800 watts RMS, I've got a pretty good stock alternator, 130Amp, and my voltage stays in the 14.4 range at idle, I ran a Rockford BD1500.1 without big 3 at 3/4 gain and had no voltage drops at all, and that's a 1500 Watt RMS amplifier, sadly, it got stolen.

I can get the MA Audio for $50 and I have a 120 amp relay that I can use if I need to.

EDIT: Is Profile's stuff any good? Because I have 2 12" Profile Baja's that are 250 watts peak, I have no idea what the RMS is. I got the pair brand new for $15 off Craigslist.

Yeah I have two of there amps Im trying to sell (not gonna hype them up but they do the job, rated power and some). I have the 2-channel AP1200 (pushed highs and subs nicely when either set was on it) and 4-channel AP1040 (pushed highs nicely and loud) without any problems. Just some cheap electronics but do a good job in my opinion if you were on a serious budget.
