Amplifier selection: BTL 12 Dual 1 ohm

Recommended Posts

Howdy,

I've ordered 1 fully loaded BTL12, Dual 1 ohm for daily use.

I was eyeballing a Soundstream XXX 4000D to power the thing. In talking to an installer, they have suggested that the amp wouldn't work efficiently with the BTL Sub. They are currently trying to sell me on securing two 2000D's from soundstream and running one sub per voice coil. Looking around, this doesn't seem to be the best course of action eitehr.

Any thoughts?

This install will be in a 2009 Dodge Challenger RT. I'll be going with an Eclipse Navigation head unit. Stock stereo is the six speaker Boston Acoustics setup with a 270 watt amp for mids and highs.

Just look around for an amp that does 2000-2500 rms @ 2 ohms. Also your going to need to beef up your electrical system if you haven't already. If you haven't, start looking into getting a H.O alternator and maybe some back up batteries.

They want you to hook up each voice coil to an amp ?

I think it would be better to link the 2 amplifiers and to run both voice coils as they should be.

Some others here, will tell you more than me. I'm not a pro at all !!!

You can ask Sundown on their forum here too.

Maybe the shop you went in, had only those 2000's in stock, and they want to sell what they have, not what you need !!!

Be careful, and good luck for your system!!!
