Deciding on 15s

Recommended Posts

Hello all! Well im certainly a noob around here. I've been looking at the boards for quite a few months but I've finally decided to post. Anyway, onto business...

I have a 2006 Nissan Xterra with 2 12" RE SE's in a custom 4 cu ft at 34hz enclosure (the old ones, not the seX) on a nasty TMA 1000.1 (I didn't know much about this, bought it cheap from a friend). I'm right on that 1000 rms borderline so I have not performed any electrical upgrades and my car is fine (no dimming etc).

Problem is, this system doesn't really seem loud anymore LOL so I'm considering moving up to 2 15" Fi's. For amplifiers, I was considering a Sundown 1500 or Sundown 2000. I will perform the Big 3 upgrade, run 1/0 obviously, put a yellow top under the hood and a big Stinger spv70 or something like it in the trunk. I also plan to add sound deadening and a 4 channel amp with some new components.

SO my question is, on somewhere around 2000 rms, what would be better for me, 2 15 BL's or 2 15 SSD's?

Thank you

you should stick with stinger starting battery as well if using stinger rear battery so u don't have to purchase a solenoid to prolong the life of your batteries.

Also, this is gonna be iffy so i'm not gonna suggest it now but if you start getting dimming not long after u install your 1,500w-2,000w setup, you will need an alternator upgrade.

Keep tabs on your voltage levels before starting your car every now and then as well.

I think you'd like the BLs. Either way, you'd be happy i'm sure since you're upgrading both subs and power together.

Before going with 2 15s though, make sure you have the room! 2 15s will typically require almost twice as much room as 2 12s do.

Thanks for all that information! I looked into HO alternators but i was surprised to not find much apart. Although that is a primary concern for me so I will be sure to pay close attention.

Regarding the battery brands, wow I knew nothing about that. Opinions for a good brand for both the front and rear? Thanks

Regarding trunk space, I've been playing with a few box calculators only for L-Port boxes (RE calculator). Is there a calculator for any other box designs?

And does anyone have any reccomendations for amps?

Sorry for all the questions

you could go with Stinger, kinetik batteries...a hc2000 in the back

You should get the BLs so you could go with a Sundown (SAZ 2000d)...
