93 civic hatch enclosure

Recommended Posts

I'm just trying to design a new box for a 93 civic hatch. Just wondering if anybody has any suggestions for me. There will be 3/4'' all-thread rod for bracing. The box is for 4 12'' pioneer premier ts-w3002spl. It will be in a wall config. subs on driver side port on passenger. all thoughts are welcome. This is what i got so far..

That's not a wall...

Are you installing this where the back seats are or back in the hatch area?

give me your most squared measurements of height, width and depth.

Let me know how thick you want the walls and baffle.

I can sketch up a design and post my thoughts on what u can do with the room you have.

thats better.

I have a question, do these subs you chose use that air spring suspension?

Because if they do, if i'm not mistaken, i think these subs will do better on lower volume and lower port area..

I could be wrong but i think they might unload sooner with a big ass port. Is this for daily? if it is, this build will be easier to decide.

it's for daily but i would like to compete as well i was originally thinking of making some sort of changeable port currently i run 4" abs pipe which i change from a set of 30hz to 40 hz and im not too sure about the airspring technology but this will likely help you. My link i appreciate the help.

Air Suspension System

For its revolutionary 3.25 inch deep Shallow Subwoofer, Pioneer createdan Air Suspension system effective within a 70% smaller-than-previousenclosure that locks air for a spring-like effect between main anddrive cones moving in unison. The result is consistentlyclear, powerful, wide ranging bass response. The subwoofer's dual conestructure maintains better sound linearity and reliability after hoursof hard use than conventional subwoofers with "spider" structures tokeep the voice coil aligned. This incredible technology is applied tothis new generation of high output, high performance subwoofers.

It's on your subs.

The only thing i'm afraid of is Pioneer suggests to use small enclosures with REAL small port openings for these types of subs... It makes me wonder if it's because they will unload sooner than other woofers. This si why i don't know a great port size to suggest to you.

You can always try to call Pioneer and see what they say for competition use but i doubt they would know.

hmm, do us(me and u) a favor...

See if u can find any other setup designs with these subs on youtube or somethin and see if u can get volume and port area used..

I just dont want to suggest a large port area and then your subs start unloading like crazy during burps.

x2, dont wall the hatchback man (we had a topic on walling a crx and its just useless, you will get louder without the wall).

how so all i keep hearing is that a wall is best shouldn't it be louder with less airspace to fill with sound or pressure.

no wall = loading area

wall = less volume

Walls are a better choice if u know you are gonna surpass the potential of what a no-wall has to offer.

By using a no-wall, you are limited by cone area so u can only get so loud...

If u can get those 4 12s in a loading area without a wall, then it should most definitely be louder.

2 Diamond audio D5 10's D4 ohm coils

2 Soundstream EGA1700D Amps strapped

2 Group 31 A batts (in rear)

1 Yellow top under the hood

260 amp custom wound alt (only saw 180ish at 2k rpm--suppose to be 260)

1/0 wire everywhere---all grounds/power under the hood... everything that was ever meant to be a ground was upgraded

2 layer fatmat xtreme 80mil

rear cargo area was sprayfoamed under the factory interior panels--solid... if you tapped on the back of the car it was like hitting a brick

small box... 2.4 cubes roughly with a very mininmal amount of port I think 45sq in.

with my port plug/daily port I could play music at the 148ish db range..

the car was very consistant at the 149-150.5 db range... blew the subs on my 151 run :) they're only 5 or 600 watt woofers... :D

little car was nasty back in the day :)

I personally wouldnt use those subs for competition because they lack that punch(from personal experience I had two of them in a previous install, they hit the lows like no other just have a low motor force). But if you already have them and if you feel a wall is the best for you then go with it, but you can do more with: less subs, less box, less weight and around the same amount of power.

well right now im running 4 12" premiers in a 6.6 cuft enclosure tuned to 30hz with 4 4" ports and premier 3000 watt amp at 4 ohm tho so only like 1500 peak but just waiting for my hifonics cyclops to be fixed then be using that. so far 143.9db. first try. this is the first real build i ever started and will eventually like to run 2 18" fi btls in the not too distant future would really love to 18" level 5's but they are soo expensive. what do u guys think would be louder 1 btl or 1 dc level 5?
