New Idea!

Recommended Posts

So I was sitting here thinking of how I can make my car louder! then it hit me! toss out my back seat and get another NS 15inch and more power and fire them up or forward! lol!! I was just looking over my last install pics and I noticed without the rear seat I have so much more space. plus my car already has 320,000km (198,000 miles) so what can I lose! lol!!

I HAVE NOT TAKEN ANY MEASUREMENTS YET, this is just what I was thinking about. my car is a 95 grand am

my current setup can be found here

I now have a new jvc avx77 and aluminum bus bars on my batteries so everything looks a little more cleaner!

anyways back to my idea! if I pull out the seat make a 6cubic box either forward firing or up firing. then put my batteries and amps in the trunk!!

now I know I need to upgrade my battery bank to say 3- d3100 and I need to get another saz2000 (so 2saz2000 in total strapped) is there anything i have left out?

What is best up or forward firing 2 subs (2-15inch NS d2) what are the advantages and or disadvantages that you can think of in a setup like this.

now let's talk port idea's. Either round or square and how big would they have to be?

my box should be around 6cubic after displacement and bracing and port. also should I be using 3/4 mdf or 1/2 birch for this build. I have heard that birch is just as tough as mdf and sounds just as good the only negative is the cost plus it also doesn't weigh as much as mdf does.

now all IDEA's are welcome yes I know this is a VERY vague idea and not even 100% thought through yet but you got to start somewhere right? lol!!

so any and all help will be hot! ALSO this build will not happen till about April ish. jsut b/c right now I am in school and hold down a part time job so I don't have too much time for anything other than those 2 things.

let me know your idea's and I will get some sizes tomorrow night!

thanks in advances

Kenneth

o ya C&D batteries those aer those HUGE 100lb monsters with a massive amout of reserve!! good idea plus they are prety cheap used b/c nobody likes a 100lb battery!!! i wonder if i can get awya with jsut 2 of those CD batteries? any idea's?

and correct me if i am wrong but for me to have a WALL it would have to be higher up then my seat? and if i go the wall route wouldn't i be in a completely new class at a spl show? and if i keep the box under the seat level (window level) i would fall in the normal class wouldn't i?

a new idea jsut came to me while i was at work!! here is a rough box idea take a look!

what do you guys think about the port, as it is being fired UP? does the port firing direction mean much in the way of spl?

and thanks again for any and all input so far!

in my opinion, you do not have enough equipment to benefit from a wall...

A wall needs lots of cone area, lots of port and lots of power...

You have none.. Sure some people may run with just 2 subs in a wall but with massive amounts of power...

You'd be better off keeping a loading area and rebuilding an enclosure possibly rear-firing for a loading area so u can break a 150.

very good point that i need more cone and way more power it just wouldn't be worth it for 2 subs! so scrate the wall idea lol.

you mensioned "keeping a loading area"? what does that mean? do you mean don't get rid of my rear seat? maybe jsut shoot the subs towards the rear of the trunk? see that is a little issue if put the sub(s) shooting opposite the driver i will nto have enough trunk space which is why i thought about bringing the box out of the trunk and into the rear seat. my trunk may look big but really max is like 18x36x25ish and that would be about 6cubic i believe but then where do i put the amps and batteries?

i thought to hid it all i would get tint'ed windows and a cover. and maybe the box would be small enough so i coudl still carry someone back there!

i am going to tkae some measurements now! brb!

take a picture of the inside of your car from the front seat showing the space where your back seats used to be and your entire trunk space and i'll show you something secret

that's what i figured. u cant gain DBeez with a dirty rag in the trunk! Get that outta there!!

lol

This is what u do-

Build 2 boxes, one for each 15. Fire the sub and port both toward the trunk. Have the baffle about level with the rear deck. Make both sub boxes fire the same way but leave a good amount of space in between each box in the middle... I don't know, maybe 15-20" of width...

Seal the Entire top and around the sides of the boxes. You ONLY want the air flow to come back down the center of the boxes.

this will allow your whole trunk to be a loading area and come back and blow your car up on the meter.

If you really wanna do somethin crazy, after you seal it up, layer a piece of wood over both boxes secured and play around with the length of this piece. The only way out through that tunnel can act as a port if you want it too by using this piece of wood...

It may help or it may not. If u got access to a meter.. it would let u know.

i love that idea BUT it will not happen you see the subs are what 16inch overal plus the port say 4inch that is 20" per sub plus wood so around 22" and i will have 2subs so that is 44inch and i need say a 20inch between the 2 of them that makes about ~64" about. and the whole (where the seat fold down and once they are out is ONLY) 18x36 (18high and 36 left to right)

50-32= 18

so max my port can be is like 15inch wide by like 20high
