Do I have enough trunk for an IB3 18"

Recommended Posts

technically you want 10 time the VAS for ib. if you dont have that then its like putting the sub in a really big sealed box... also, cars usually have a vent in trunk, this acts like an aperiodic membrane. another option is openning up holes in the trunk to the outside to make it real IB.

Whats your reasoning for wanting to go with an IB3 setup?

I've always liked ib setups my other car is setup that way I took the vents out of my trunk and sealed up the holes. What's the vas of the ib3 18 and is 475 Rms enough what about two ib3 18s

First, get as much cone area as you can. Second, make sure the front wave is as best you can sealed off from the rear wave. Those are the only rules for IB in a car.

What I was leading towards, is that air space isn't as much of an issue as cone area and keeping the front wave from canceling the rear wave. In a car you'll never get 10x Vas, unless you use a 6" in sub. So, in a car you'll never have a true IB setup. Go for broke, run 2 18's. My 15's get decent volume for no box, sorry I haven't had it metered. Per the amps specs I'm shooting 240 watts to each. I'm happy.

look at acoustic elegance, many have had very good luck with their subs. and technically you can have true ib if the trunk is vented to the outside... but you are right separating the trunk and cabin are the most important. im not a fan of ed after reading alot of bad stuff on them.

ok so i can fit the 18 if i can buy a router and do some handle work. i have 21" to work with but 2 of that is how im mounting the wall to the metal around the opening. so really i have 19" and a 18.5" sub, so im going to double the wall and router out a circle so that gives the sub a good gap between itself and the metal
