How Should I go About Wiring This?

Recommended Posts

(1) Alpine SWR1242D

(1) MB Quart DSC1000.1

Sub is 4ohms with two voice coils. The amp also has + + - - option.

So, should I wire each voice coil separately and voice both sets of + - or wire the vc's together and just use one?

Thanks for any advice, I have no idea lol.

You could wire the sub in parallel to the amp so it sees two ohms, as the amp supposedly puts out 500 rms at 2 ohms.

Thanks for the quick response.

Would this be the most efficient setup? Is there other alternatives to consider or would this one make the most sense?

Yes because that sub can be wired to either 2 ohms or 8ohms, and if you run it at 8 ohms you will not get nearly enough power to push it to its limits. It also saves you some room for upgrading in case you want to get another 12" Alpine Type-r and run it off the same amp in the future.

Thanks, I'm going to need it. The guy "helping" me turns out not to be as car audio experienced as I thought. I asked him to take a look under my hood to see if the spot I found to get my power wire through my firewall would work and he responded with "Dude you don't even need to go through the firewall I have mine running through my door insulation"

what kinda box you gonna put it in? I ran one in a ported box built exactly to alpines spec off of around 350 watts and it was pretty impressive.

Box is 2.14 cubes tuned to 33.6. Has a 2" wide port with 26.5 sq. inches of port area. 37.25" wide, 14.75" high and 10.75" deep.

EDIT: I'm not sure what Alpines exact specs are but IIRC recommendation said 1.75. I am working with a guy off CA.com who is building the box and he said with all of the SWR's he's worked with, 1.75 chokes them a little bit and he suggested going a bit bigger so we decided on 2.14 cubes.

alright, I think I remember that about right, Im pretty sure it was under 2 , but back then I just used there dimensions, dont remember the actual size or tuning frequencies, but when I doubled the box for 2 off a NINe.1 the output was insane for the price of those subs, one of the best outputs/$$$ subs ive ever owned. and they sound good too.

Looking forward to getting it installed. I'll let you know how it sounds.

Just curious are you ever gonna upgrade to another 12" for that amp or just keep it as is, one sub?
