going loud in a 30year old VWbeetle cabiolet

Recommended Posts

We had blast today ..really a lot of fun

this is not my car , this is of one of our team members ,just so you know .

so its an 30 year old VW beetle with an complete custom build polyester body and soft leather top .

install:

1x 15 inch mayhem D2 in a 4,75 cu. ft box , port 76 sq. inch tuned to 49 HZ

2 dragster daa2201 linked (which are really crap)I'll explain why later

3x 72Ah Varta , they were sitting @ 13.2 V fully charged.(wich should be 13.7)

the dragsters should putt out 4400 Wrms a 2ohms @ 14.4 linked ,we only got to 3200W @ 13.2 V @2 ohms,we also tested a Celestra DA4K , that one put out 2000W @ 2 ohms @ 13.2V (rated a 3200W @1 ohm on 14.4 and 0,5 ohms stable) and a Celestra DA6K2 , this one put out 2800W @ 2 0hm @13.2 V (rated 5000W @ 14.4 V @ 1ohm and 0.5 ohms stable) , so the Celestra's did extremely well and I've got good hopes that when we can run it on 1 ohm it and new batteries are in the DA6K will come close to 6KW !

the old score stood on 141,5 , we tweeked the system today we got to 145,6 today , this seems like not a very high score , but its a soft leather top Cabrio ...that a LOT harder to go loud in !

this winter we will recone the Mayhem to D1 , we've got a few new ideas on the box too ,like a 10inch aeroport , upgrade it electrical with a few northstar NSB100 batteries and a different amp .

anyways here's a little video of the final run

bump ,

I thought you guys would appriciate this , we had almost no cabin-gain to work with , if this were a normal car instead of a convertible we would have seen 6 to 8 db more on that score

Was not expecting that.

Impressive score. With some different wheels and a little nose work you could make that bug look like a 40 Ford. :)

holy crap, when the guy stepped in and closed the door tighter I realized how tiny this thing is, WOW.

Thats one unique car, how did you fit a 15 in there?
