Questions about SSD 12 and amp

Recommended Posts

Alright, Im looking at getting an SSD 12. I would like to have 2 12s but i think with my amp (kicker zx 750.1) they would be way under powered. now i have read that u CANT underpower a sub, but in all honesty, would it sound good at all?

So i want ur guys opinions on my amp paired with this sub. dont be afraid to tell me its a POS. i want to know.

-should i stick with just one?

-POS amp?

-what amp would u suggest if i decide to go with two?

Ive also heard many people say that one Fi sub would sound like two of anything else if its done right. True?

Kicker amps are not crap amps, they are very reliable and powerful.

if u underpower a sub and have no need in swapping amps to build an enclosure that is more efficient for the power you have.

Also, for the power you have, you should go with just one.

If you went with 2, any 1500-2000w amp would be great. Sundown 1500d, IA 20.1, AQ2200d...

I have a buddy that runs a 3000w on 2 SSDs but i don't recommend doing it if you do not know how to setup amps yourself.

There would be absolutely nothing wrong with putting two SSDs on that amp. As long as you didn't clip the amp, I'd venture to say it would actually sound better than one sub because you wouldn't be pushing them to their limits at the same volume level. Not only that, but the two 12s would get louder.

One Fi sub being like two of anything else is a gross generalization and certainly not true at all. Maybe if you're comparing them to some 100 watt pioneers or something, but while FI does make good subs, they aren't far and above everybody else. You're just listening to people with Fi boners.

haha thats kind of what i figured. i want two of them bad... gonna try to get a little bit bigger amp at leas. possibly a zx1500.1 . Might go ahead and get two and just upgrade to a bigger amp later.

should a 1 cuft sealed box be good?? a piece that is.

and when you say "clip the amp"... what is the actual meaning of that? ive heard several people define it several different ways....

There is only one definition: When the signal that the amplifier puts out is no longer a sine wave but instead has the tops of the waves "clipped" off into a flat top.

1 cuft each will be fine. Fi recommends .8 - 1.6 cuft for sealed, so anything in that range will work great.

You'll love the SSDs. Even underpowered, they sound great. I have two 12" SSDs and I couldn't be happier.
