How bad is your hearing loss?

Recommended Posts

I am curious to see if my hearing just sucks, or if there are more people on here that hear as poorly as I do. lol

http://www.noiseaddicts.com/2009/03/can-you-hear-this-hearing-test/

I am only 28 & cannot hear above 14khz!!

I have the volume on my computer up pretty high, still couldnt hear a thing. 18khz my wife came in & told me to quit that shit because I was giving her a headache. From another room!!

Just plain scarey.

We used to do this in electronics class with signal generator and a small speaker....just wiggle it around 18K and see who starts reacting.

All people are different so I wouldn't get too worried if you can't hear > 14Khz Really you're missing NOTHING in music in that range anyway.

I could hear them all

x2, but I usually hear my ear's beeping or ringing every now and then. My problem is I can barely hear words and when talking to people I hear what I want to hear instead of what their saying, but on the other hand I can hear all kinds of sounds whether there faint or loud.

How are people able to hear above 20hZ when the frequency range of human hearing is 20-20khz?

That is the just the audible range of most humans and does not apply to everyone (everybody is not the same), read up on Wikipedia:

"Hearing range usually describes the range of frequencies that can be heard by an animal or human, though it can also refer to the range of levels. In humans the audible range of frequencies is usually said to be 20Hz to 20,000Hz (20kHz) (Hz is the standardised term for 'cycles per second'), although there is considerable variation between individuals, especially at the high frequency end, where a gradual decline with age is considered normal. Sensitivity also varies a lot with frequency, as show by equal-loudness contours, which are normally only measured for research purposes, or detailed investigation."

Its just like a car install design there are too many factors to determine the exact highest and lowest range a human can possible hear unless you test everbody (that range comes from a group of tested humans which is not the most accurate but it is relevant). Its just a standard to go by, while most humans can hear up to 20,000Hz if that; there is a real small amount who may be able to go higher and since this does not apply to everyone they wont put this in the human hearing range.

well i think it has to do with the speakers your listening to on your computer, i can only hear up to 16k on the comp, but if im downstairs and someone shut the cable off without shutting the tv off, it drives me nuts because i can hear it. my family thinks im crazy, but i can hear that pucker everytime the cable is off.

edit: for example, when im just listening to the speakers on my laptop, i cant hear past 15k, but when i put on these Phillips earbuds, i can hear the 16k just fine.

I have moderate hearing loss in my right ear. I don't hear any of the vocal range. I guess the old SS10R's were louder than I thought!!
