The battery is really not going to be important except for when running with the vehicle off. If the vehicle is running, the alternator will be providing the juice and the battery isz nothing more than another load on the alt. THis is assuming your electrical system is up to the task of prividing your system with the proper amount of current, along with the necessary current needed for the vehicle and accessories. Once you go past this point, the vehicle will actually draw from the battery which can cause problems and shorten the lifespan of the battery and alternator.

Cliff notes:

Get a H.O alternator before you get a new battery

Why the hell would he spend that kind of money to run a single amp, and why would he need a new alt to add a battery?

He doesnt need a new alt to add another battery.

1 alternator can only charge so much...you know the story

You told him to "get" one like he needs one.

2 batts and one amp, I'm sure the alt isnt even seeing much of a draw.

in all honesty - for the setup You have proposed (Just that Hifonics), I seriously doubt You'll need an alt or an extra battery.

Anyone that tells You ANY battery "sucks after a year" has some problems with their vehicle or install.

If You are not competing (alot), then the battery will rarely see a drain that the alternator can 'replace' in a few minutes of driving.

Yellow Tops have an AH of 55 (iirc). Meaning that they can withstand a 20amp draw for 55 hours before being completely discharged (10.2ish vdc). Mind You, this is 55hours constant draw, no recharging.

Get whichever popular brand battery You can afford & fit easily.

You don't need kinetiks & blue tops & the like unless You are chasing tenths. But, hey, it's Your money.

well... even though every install's different:

'02 Trailblazer (stock 150amp alt) I ran Orion 2500D & 8002 off a Pioneer 860MP & 1/ott for about 6months off of the stock (circa 2002) Delco battery. This included a Buffalo winter (lots of headlight, heater, rear defrost). When I swapped in an Optima Blue (for burping mainly, but left it in), the Delco still stood @ 12.3vdc. :)
