Static distortion coming from speakres, help!

Recommended Posts

I just installed an avionixx 440.4 amp into my rsx and I am hearing 'static' distortion coming through all my speakers. The distortion, though slight, 'plays' along with each note of the song if that makes any sense to anyone. I was thinking of adding a noise suppressor but I am not sure if that would be another waste of money. I am begining to think perhaps the amp is a defect or just not up to snuff for the job (quality-wise). Here is what I have tried thus far:

-Ensured secure ground to the vehicle chassis using 4 guage cable (same gauge as power line).

-ran rca straight from the deck to the amp thus negating any possiblity the other rca's/speaker cables could be causing interference due to close proximity.

-ensured the deck is grounded solidly.

-tested 1 speaker at a time(ran only 1 speaker connected to 1 channel) and adjusted CENS to no avail.

-ensured all rca cables are 'good' and not stretched.

-rewired HU harness.

-switched amp xover from full>low>hi modes all three give the same distortion.

I am begining to think this amp either sucks or is a lemon. Perhaps someone here can add some other insight...

:( I only get static when both sets of rca's are plugged into my 4 channel avionix amp. When i have ony 1 set of rca in the amp it is clear (Static-free). I tested this on both sides of the amp and the same thing happens regardless if i have the rear rca installed or front rca installed or vice versa. ANy ideas?

did you run the speaker wire on the same side of the car as the power wire? sometimes that creates noise (or so i have heard). are you listening to the radio, i remember my avionixx used tripath technology and messed with the radio signals.
