Does the epicenter help increase you spl or does it just act like a bass boost where it will just cause the amp to clip. Would it be a good idea to buy one if I mainly use an ipod?

It does both of those really well, it will increase your SPL and help you clip your amp if your not careful. I only use my epic-160 at low volumes when I want to make some bass appear on a song or on a song that has no bass like old school. Dont use the epic-160 on a song that already has bass especially at medium to high volumes because it can cause your woofers to reach maximum excursion and beyond which will kill the subwoofers. If used safely its a good tool but I just use mine for the voltage read out and tweking purposes such as moving stuff around and see if I gained any dbs (but the mic isnt accurate from my understanding, so dont go thinking thats what you will hit on a TL meter).

I don't think you will need extra processing on the low notes with your setup! 4 Icons, or 4 Xcon 18's will give you more than enough, at low lovels, at high levels even more!!!!!!!!!!! Don't you all think so?!

Yes. I can imagine 4 18" Xcons will be fine with the proper electrical. Ive seen your build log and it looks like you are on the right track. Hook up the xcons first, see how it sounds and go from there.

Yes very true. I was kinda loving the idea of a db meter on it but I think I will just buy one.

It isn't really a bass boost. It restores low freq stuff that is lost in poor/old recordings.

I had one for a while and it was very nice for a lot of older stuff (James Brown, Parliament, older Metallica/Megadeth).

On new recordings it was overwhelming. I really wouldn't reccomend it unless you had some equipment that could dig deep as most of the stuff it adds is in the <30hz range. Mic was off by quite a bit but a useful tool for the sake of just finding peaks and weak spots in response.

The difference in price between what I bought and sold mine for was only the cost of eBay fees (about 30$) so IMO well worth playing with/testing.
