which would you choose for a h/u and active setup?

Which sounds like a better idea to you. I am in need of a new double din gps radio and i also plan on going active. Here are the choices

I can either get

the new kenwood dnx9140

sax 100.4 for mids

sax 100.4 for highs (will be mostly tuned down since the tweeters will not be able to take 160+ watts of power as they are 2 ohm)

i would need to use the crossovers on the amp

or

the new kenwood dnx7140

rockford fosgate 3sixty.2 (used as the crossover)

sax 100.4 for mids

sax 50.4 for highs

both cost the same

or if you feel that there is something better that i should get please let me know

it should be noted that the dnx9140 has a 14 band eq ... also for the 360 i would have to run the highs off the front input and the mids off the rear input on the 360 ... it really shouldnt make a difference tho

Option 1, even with an 50.4 would probably be the easier one to set. But you might have more adjustability with option due to the 360.2.

I would never recommend using an amplifier for an active setup. It can work and will work IF you know what you are doing, but is extremely hard to make any changes.

Fundamentally a processor isn't worth crap to me if it doesn't do: Many different slopes, digitally set crossover points, independent L/R equalizer, time alignment on any channel.

Personally I'd look for something other than the 360.2 as well as it was meant for doing OE installations, not what you propose. Considering you want a screen an Alpine screen with the H701 is a WAY, WAY better choice than either of your options.

my problem is that i have a 1300 dollar store credit to sonic electronix and will not use it for anything else ... i wanted the alpine but due to the fact that sonic does not sell it i cannot get it ... what do you recommend i use then instead of the 360.2?

That's tough, I don't know of a screen that has crossovers that are worth a damn nor can any non-Alpine control an off board processor. (I haven't looked in 6 months so it is possible something is new but I doubt it as that isn't the normal market for them).

As for what sonic has, the AC DQX or DQXS could be okay, but I have NO experience with them so don't consider that a recommendation just the potential.

Wouldnt that do less than the 360.2? The 360.2 can be used for either OEM or aftermarket. It has everything in it that you stated you should look for in a signal processor and more. Plus you can tune it with your computer via bluetooth meaning you no longer have to run back to the trunk to adjust frequencies.

I was just going to buy a netbook. I planned on buying one anyway. If needed I can always bring it with me. It beats going to the trunk to adjust it. Will the 360.2 work for what I want it to do (main concern is will it split the frequencies to mids and highs (front rcas highs and rear rcas mids))?

The RF is noisy and really is meant to level an OEM response more so than to run active. It only has either 12dB or 24dB slopes, requires an expensive palm or pc interface and generically speaking I haven't read too much good about it.

The DQXS./DQX has 30 bands of eq for EACH channel, 2 fully parametric eq's, available dash control, the only thing I am unsure on is if the crossovers are fixed at 24dB or not.

Neither list time alignment, but perhaps I can't read. I have heard positives on the AC unit and none on the RF. Personally I wouldn't really want either. You could always buy a Pioneer 800prs from them and throw it in your glovebox.

The problem I have with the audiocontrol pieces are that you can only look at one band at a time. I like looking at the frequency spectrum as a whole sometimes. It allows me to tweek things so they flow a little better.

Generally looking at a cluster of 3 frequencies at a time may be helpful, but you don't need to visualize the entire band to make it look smoother.. you're trying to make it sound smooth. Who cares how it looks.

If you want your screen to control your system it is an all Alpine or carpc solution. There really isn't another option. If you don't care if your proc is separate then there are some other options but none of them from Sonic.

I could care less if I see any bands together. In fact doing it blind might help as what I see won't interfere with what I hear. Remember the eq is there to cut away the problems not to boost anything. No need for it to look "smooth".
