BOX for my 18's

Recommended Posts

18in Sx btw

.

Ok,

I got 17.31cuft to mess wt here :faintthud:

43.5x27.5x25.

The box is gonna be ported to idk 32 sounds like a good number. Suggestions? :hyper:

It will probably be dual chambered, wt the port on the end. :nopity:

Is that to big or not big enough is my question. It says it only needs 6cuft for sql, so i guess 8cuft for one sub isn't that bad. :ugh2:

Ive heard the SX18 in 6ft^3 tuned to 32hz powered by a Lanzar Vibe1200(1200x1 @ 1ohm) probaly doing around 1000w. And all i heard was boomy deep bass. Id try something a little bigger around 7ft^3 tuned to 32hz.

For SQ id try around 4.5ft^3 sealed.

just did some more calculations.

After dp i'll have 14.63cuft, so thats 7.2 to each.

I'm probably going to add some bracing, so that will drop me even lower, so i'll prolly end up wt 7cuft even to each.

So do you think i should tune it higher or lower, if all u heard was boomy bass, no pun, i would say i need to tune it higher.

Id tune to 32hz, but its what you like afterall, it wasnt only boomy bass but it was loud and rattled things up but at the same time it did it with quality, best 18 ive heard to far. You will be running 2 of these???

But if you are going to tune a bit higher, dont go over 35hz, tune to between 32-35. And you will be fine. BTW, how much power will u send to it?

yea, im gettin 2.

still need 120$, lol

I found a PA 3000db on ebay for 240+sh

-so about 2000watts.

I had one before but it was defective and i paid 330$ for it so i should say i bettered myself, lol.

I plan on getting another one some time in the far off future, after this its rim time.

well, i've never owned an sx.....lol...but i currently have an 18 in my truck...in 5.7ft^3...

i'd recommend in the 5-5.5ft^3 range myself, tuned between 30-32hz. about 50in^2 of port apiece...that would be a nice sql enclosure...

if u heard boomy bass in 6ft^3, it'll be even boomier in 7ft^3, as the larger enclosure will reinforce the lowend.

just my two centz...

i'll try this big ass box 1st.

I've kept hearing the bigger the box, the better, unless you go too big, but i doubt 7cu's is to big for 18s of such proportions.

If i don't like it its always next week :fart:

bigger is only better if

a) u have low power and are trying to get the most outa the sub u can

b ) u just gotta have the low lows

c) u don't care if u blow it up and just want to burp as loud as u can

building the box correctly to the application is what works best.

so,

what vehicle?

what power?

what kind of result are you after?

i'd bet money 5ft^3 to 5.5ft^3 per sub is more then enough if you have more then 1200wrms for each one.

remember as u go bigger, u make the sub more efficient, lower it's mechanical power handling, and reinforce the low end response. it'll start to get muddy unless u tune even lower to compensate and then u'll lose output.

always start with the recommended and build from there...

get nick in here, he has experience with sx's...as does tom...get their opinion...

i only have 15s and i think same with Nick as well so our input wouldnt be all that great

i'd call RE and ask them about it

coo i'll call when i order them.

I believe the site says for SQL-6.5cu tuned to 32 and 4.3cu sealed for SQ...

They give no specifications for SPL. So i'm guessing if sql is 6.5 and spl app, is going to be more than that.

specs

LIncoln TC

about 2000watts

just want it to be loud, its gonna be low regardless.

true...but what experience u have with the 15's can be useful..

what size ported box and tuning do the 15's like? larger then recommended? smaller?

any input from ppl who have them is better then input from ppl who don't..

2000 for the pair? if so, i think the 6-6.5ft^3 would be nice..

:ready2go:

i didn't know his power..i figured he'd be running more.

also, the 5.5ft^3 would still sound better,IMO, but the 6.5ft^3 will allow him to get louder and take better advantage of 1000 per sub.

if he had 2000 per sub, the 5.5ft^3 would be the best choice..

so, u got lucky...

:nutkick: <----- that can/will happen u push me too much...:lol2:

i gotz the delete key, and don't u forget it!!! muhahahahahahahaha

the 6-6.5 sounds nice...but 50 in port? but if you got the room i'd do about 120in a piece. i usually try to do 20-25in^2 port per cube of the box. its just always worked really well for me :D

yep..i had a brain fart..

for whatever reason, i was thinking 5-6.5 cubes total for both drivers, hence the 50in^3 of port.

anyway, anything from about 75in^2 up to 120in^2 would work nicely...

wait i'm a little confused on porting?

I have the measurements to make the port and have it tuned to the right freq, but i don't understand all of this, "75in^2 up to 120in^2 of port"

Is this for say the total port area, as in the inside of the box having extra turns and twist of port?
