Help with voltmeter again

I have it wired but it doesn't turn off when I turn the car off because its directly hooked up to the battery.

I'm thinking I can splice into my remote turn on for the amp but I won't get a voltage reading from that will i?

I need a way to get the best voltage reading possible and for the meter to shut off when the car is turned off...

You need to hook the power wire to a switched source, such as ignition or switched power to the head unit.

Would I get a good reading from the ignition?

And how would I go about doing that..

edit: somehow splicing into my ignition wire or something?

double edit: could I run the power from the meter to somewhere on my amp?

it should shut off along with my amp when I turn my car off right?

But then I wouldn't really have a place to ground it..

You'd need a relay. The relay cuts off a wire coming from the battery, which supplies voltage to the voltmeter.

I am reading about installing my stinger volt meter. Just alittle confused now that a relay is mentioned.

Is the relay needed with the Stinger 3 wire volt meter or only necessary with say, a 2 wire meter?
