Need help putting together a system

Recommended Posts

1st of all, HELLO

Ive been gone a while (busy and poor since i moved from FL to TX)

I believe one of my last post was about my new truck (the reg cab silverado) well now its time to fix er up with a system. My music tastes have changed completely. I used to only listen to rap/hip hop and now I dont listen to that at all. Now im into like Gavin DeGraw, Dave Mathews, Ben Harper, etc. So instead of "two bangin fit-teens" im goin with an SQ setup thats loud and clean. So far the only thing im set on is a single rli-8 in a sealed enclosure. Other than that i need ya'lls help, with...

-an HU

-sub amp (400-500 watts maybe)

-components (a set thatll get pretty loud and clear but no crazy prices)

-component amp

and as always im lookin for quality thats reasonably priced

Thanks in advance and its good to be back

Tom

welcome back

what's your budget and do you have any brand preferences?

since you might be dealing with a small space, why not run a Kicker KX 550.3, it will push the components and sub very nice in just one chassis,

{waiting for someone to yell GO ACTIVE}

and I believe HCCAfan has a fwe sets of Orion "P" components left at good prices

well i have no brand prefs so anything u wanna suggest go for it

as far as budget goes ill be saving up then buying so it can vary quite a bit, therefore i cant really give you a dollar amount

Thanks

Tom

i like denim's idea, trying to fit multiple amps in a reg cab can be tricky, you could also just get a 4ch and bridge the rears to the sub

100x2@4 + 400x1@4 could be nice

An Orion 8004 would be sweet

dont Orions have a fairly large footprint? i would think it'd be the smaller the better in this case

Hey Tom,

I have a 04 reg cab GMC and I can tell you squeezing in 2 amps can be done ;) but if I redid my system I would do a single multi channel amp too. I have my front stage amp behind the passenger seat, and my sub amp (old school RF, big bastard) under the passenger seat, and my sub box goes from behind the drive seat to the passenger side of the center console. In your case starting fresh, just do a multi-channel amp behind the passenger side and drop 2 8's behind the driver seat and the center console, and your in buisness with no sacrifice of leg room. Check out EFFENDI's new diamond amp, that thing would be sweet, but a little pricy. Keep an eye on Ebay and watch for old Adcom or Mcintosh 4 channels, the back channels can be bridged down to 2 ohms, they are fan cooled, and make great power at low impedences, and ......oh ya, SQ is top notch from both. Mac's will be a little pricy, but mine is 12 years old and running strong, and still sounds awesome. Adcoms will be a little cheaper, the fan is a little louder, but are stable enough to drive nails. I have a old 40 X 2 that bridged across 3 DVC 10" (maybe 1/4 ohm final load) that would rattle my fillings. Class D's today make a smaller footprint for their output, but IMO you can't beat some of those old school amps. Phoenix Gold M-series, Orion HCCA, Mac's, Adcom,s, and old Precision Power art series can all be had on Ebay at relativly low prices and their sound can't be beat. The Orions, PG's, and Adcoms can go bridged to below 1 ohm (suggest additional cooling measures) and develop crazy power from their relativly low ratings. Another alternative is check out the string on NEXT amps, low, low prices for what looks to be pretty well made equipment.

thanks

but now that i think about it i think ill just go with the orion 8004 from hccafan also, because when u add it up (80 for effendis amp + 150-200 for another from a store + shipping) it equals the same or more than $300 8004 from hcca fan plus it would be a single amp rather than 2

so the new plan is...

-single sealed rli-8 (which i already said that im set on)

-a set of orion p6.2 comps from hccafan

-orion 8004 from hccafan

-and an HU still to be decided upon

what do you guys think?

and what changes next? haha

You should get the H/U first.

No sense in buying body parts if there is no brain ;)

as far as hu goes, i want to use the stocker until i save up for a screen/HU similar to this one but maybe not this exact one>

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...5773489928&rd=1

so maybe you guys can keep your eyes peeled for cheap ones like these

it needs to be....

-non-flip out (like the one in the link)

-touch screen

-plays cds, cdrws, and dvds

-prefereably hav a nav system and tv tuner but those are optional

any advice/warnings?

thanks

have a screen in my car, I don't need it, the fun wears out fast, and the cost/performance is not that good overall

yea i can see where that would happen, plus im being very unreasonable about a screen, it would seriously take me a minimum of 6 months to save that up and thats just not worth it

so lets say no screen, can i keep my stock HU or should i get an after market

i kno ur probably gonna say after mareket but the reason i ask is cuz i knew a guy with the same truck i have (ie same stock HU) and had it hooked up to some JL subs and it sounded fine...

now what must you say, oh great ones

lol

thanks again guys
