SoundSplinter RL-Ps

Recommended Posts

Hey I have done a lot of research and have heard that the soundsplinter RL-Ps are amazing for both sound quality and sheer power. I am looking for a setup that will bump and will be heard by people outside of the car, yet will still have good sq. I do not want it to bump so much so that my head is going to hurt after 10 minutes though. I was thinking possibly 2 12 Rl-Ps, but didnt know if those would be too loud for what I am looking for. Maybe even 1 15 Rl-P would work too. I would also like to know which type of box would work well with these subs? What type of amplifier would work well with these different setups? Again I want a system that can have some serious power and be heard with good sound quality, but not so much so that it will give me a headache listening to it for 20 minutes. Thanks for all your help. Mike

well, just about any sub will be heard outside of the vehicle..lol...

but, if ur interested in the rl-p's (they are really nice subs!) and going by what u say ur after...a pair of 12" rl-p's sealed (about 2.5ft^3 net for the pair) or a 15 ported (about 2-2.5ft^3, with 25-35in^2 of port tuned between 28-32hz)will both do the trick. i'd recommend about 1200-1500wrms for the pair of 12's and 750-1000wrms for the 15 ported.

that will get ya plenty loud and sound great as well...

id go for the pair of 12's, they will hit the lower better and will get a little louder than the 15. im going to get 2 15's soon with a hifonics XX Hercules(2000x1 @1ohm) just my 2 cents.

to me it sounds like he would be more than fine with a single 12,

in a ported tuned low with 500ish watts that will do the trick

Honestly, virtually any single sub setup with even a few hundred watts can easily overpower the front stage and cause hearing damage. Some people like having the bass be 20dB+ louder than the front stage, but these people also wouldn't know what SQ was if it slapped them in the face with a 2x4.

I'd recommend just going with a single RL-p 12 or 15. For maximum accuracy, I'd nearly always recommend sticking with a sealed box.

As denim said, 500-600w is more than sufficient for musical purposes for either woofer. I'd just disagree with the vented suggestion and just recommend a sealed box, as that's still more than capable of providing sufficient SPL levels for what you seem to want, and will have far superior sub 30Hz frequency response vs a vented enclosure, as well as occupying far less real estate in your trunk.
