Lowering Crown Vic

I got a '01 Crown Victoria Police Crusier and I want to drop the car 1.5 to 2 inches.

Does anybody know anything about these?

Would these things be any good?? If these are even worth looking at, would they effect the ride quality?? As you might be able to tell I don't know jack about this stuff so any help is definitely appreciated. Thanks.

Yeah, I want to lower the whole thing. The p71 has different springs that make the car set higher than the standard Vic. This is not something I want to spend too much on. If I could do it with that lowering kit(link), at that price, I'd go for it. What do ya think?

All those do is put tension on the springs. Stupid idea for lowering a car. I'd like to smack the asshat who made those. Best way is to replace the springs. Second best way is to cut coils, but then you compromise the spring rate.

If it was me, I'd cut the springs first and if the ride/handling suffered, then I'd look into lowering springs.

Yeah, heard about as much after doing a little searching. Sounded like they were more for removing the springs or something. Anyway, how much ballpark do you think springs would cost? I don't know enough to try to cut the springs myself. Could I have that done or would I or someone I know have to be able to do it?

I'm sure you could take it to a shop and have it done. If you have an air compressor and a die grinder, you could do it yourself, provided you were able to get the springs free from the struts. There are several CV/GM forums out there that would have all the answers you need. One especially good place is www.mercurymarauder.net. While they cater to the MM, there is a sub-forum on there for the P-71 and many of the members have them anyways.

I vote to save a few extra dollars up, and get the lowering springs. Just feel spending the time and money on cutting the current springs is not the best way to go. I have just seen too many that were done improperly and the car was a danger on the road.

I got a quote from a local shop here that does rims, suicide doors etc., that said they can do it for me for $50 a spring(cuttting). I'm kinda like you though and like to error on the side of caution. That price is right up my alley but I'm not sure if I want to take the risk. Cv springs don't seem that easy to come by though as say a honda or something like that. The few CV spring kits I've seen run for like $1300 . I'm not sure which way I'm ultimately gonna go but I will definitely take your advice into account.

Did some digging and found these guys and I have been contact with them.

They have the front and rear springs specifically for the Crown Vic for $375. I'm gonna do some more checking before I do anything(marauder springs) but I think I'm gonna go with Coil Springs Specialties guys. I'm not buying this right now anyway(got to finish system first ) so I'll make sure I have done the proper research before making any purchases. Oh by the way, I've completely ruled out cutting. Thanks for all the suggestions everybody.
