how do you know what frequency to tune a box to?

28-35 daily. As for competition you have to find out your peak freq and do a lot of test n tune.

For square inches of port, generally between 14 - 16 per cubic foot is whats used.

well i was looking at the ts-w3002d4 graph and it peaks at around 45 hz and that is also where bass boost is engagued ... would this be where i want to tune my box to? it seems awfully high

absolutely not. I wouldn't tune above 35 hz for daily listening. Personally I prefer 30 hz. And why are you using the bass boost after you just read the other thread about how worthless it is?

Those pioneers play low all day and really dont pick the highs up tp well, so tuning at the point is worthless period. I have had experience with these pioneers and they dig the lows like 15"s and 18"s. My box now is tuned to 30Hz, digs deep and gets loud; if I were you I would tune between 28-30Hz. Trust me you will love it.

Subwoofers are not supposed to "pick up the highs," and cone size has nothing to do with frequency response. An 8" driver can "dig the lows" just as any 15 or 18.

imo it really isnt useful to tune below 30 hz. unless you listen to a lot of chopped and screwed music since most rap music peaks around the 40's. and rock peaking a lil higher. my box with the 32 8's was tuned to ~30 hz. it sounded nice and everything, but the box with my pair of 18's is tuned between 35-36 and i like it MUCH better. still hits the lows juuuust fine. and sounds better overall.

EDIT: but then again that's where personal preference comes into play

If you're box is tuned at 30 hz it won't pick up the higher notes as good as a box which is tuned to 45 hz.

Most people tune the box to around 30-38hz.

A box tuned to 33-34 hz will pick up the lows in almost every song.

how high are we talking ... id like to set the crossover to 80 hZ if possible ... what would be ideal so it hits the higher portion of the frequencies decent while maintaining low end

To build your box to the proper size, i would need to know what subs, how many and how much power you have available for them.

this will let me know a good tuning within the range i specified so u can still get the lows without ripping the spider off by accident.... as long as ur settings stay constant.

the subs are the ts-w3001d4 by pioneer (premier) ... there will be 2 of them in the enclosure and it will be powered by a hifonics brutus bxi2006d so i am guessing around 1500 watts to them ... this is some stuff i had lyign around and i sold it to my friend ... he wanted a ported box so we are trying to figure out how to build it ... i cant find the box calculator on ssa anymore =(
