how do i support 3000 watts

Recommended Posts

ok noob here and i was thinking i should get a yellow top under the hood, do the big 3, and get a kinetic hc2000.

now my question is do i neeed the second batt?

i heard that a second batt isnt neccesary if you wont play music with your car off.

the yellow top under the hood and big 3 are going to be done for sure though.

oh and one more question how many ft of 1/0 wire would i need to do the big 3. i have a 00' honda accord coupe.

alternator will be done soon need help on that too but dont want to spend more than 400 on one?

power is not cheap. so first of all i suggest not cheaping out on anything.

yes i would suggest the second battery. as well as upgrading the main battery under the hood. car on or off...unless there's an isolator, all batteries are used when the car is off. if there's an isolator...then the one that's under the hood is the one NOT being used. so you heard wrong.

i havent measured...but on my explorer i think i used around 8-10 feet of it. that allowed me to route the wiring where i needed to.

look around for alternators. i'd get around a 200-250 amp alternator. my 200 amp ohio gen alt cost me more than 400. i'd check companies like mechman and DC power. not sure on their pricing but dont be surprised if you spend a lil more than 400.

the only difference between power and ground wire is the color of the insulation.

What kind of 3000 are you going to be using? If you don't mind me asking.

Draw a diagram of all the new connections you'll be making/replacing to figure out at least how many terminals you'll need.

i'll give u an idea on what happens when u dont have a batt in the car but a high output alt-

I currently have a 250A mechman ($500-650) alt and stock battery up front running a 3500w AQ amp and a Sundown 100.4.

As long as the rpms are at or over 1800rpm, my voltage stays above 12.5v, if i let it drop below 1800rpm, the voltage sags big time.

Also, when the rpms are over 1800rpm, the alt is putting major lag on the engine causing a large loss of horsepower... like you are towing something.

Extra battery(ies) prevent steep voltage drops and reduce stress on alternator as long as the batts stay charged.

I would pay the extra money for Mechman or another reputable company over Iraggi. I had several bad experiences with him during the course of one transaction.
