alright so pretty much every summer my car over heats once......

last year.. i tryed draining the water and running anti freeze water mix... but like clock work this year it over heated once again...

so this time i replaced the water pump, thormostat.. ideler pully. and belt... i went for a test drive.. and it did not over heat...

but it never seems to act up when i WANT it to..

so sunday im on a date and it was fine all the way to the spot... then we ate.. and it was 105 out so i remote started my car while we were inside paying so that it would be cooled down by the time we got out there...

so i get in.. and my temp is where it should be.. but my car was blowing hot air.... we had to start drivin and put the windowns down untill she got cold...

then i notice my temp starts creeping and my car reduces power avaibity... then we came to my house.. i put it in park and pow my shit shot up and my car started spewing antifreez.

now it is 105 outside everyday... and the car is black... and it has 24 inch wheels on it.. so i know i have alot working agaist me i just wanna find out what yall think.

the car is a 02 lincoln towncar 4.6 liter. motor code W

the way it sounds... i am almost willing to be that u have an underdrive pulley on your car...

The reason why i say that is you've obviously changed everything else and it doesnt do it all the time...

Underdrive pulleys have been known to cause some problems on some cars.

I'm not saying it's common for an underdrive pulley to cause issues.. but if u have one, i would take a day or two and replace it with a standard pulley and then go back out and drive for a couple months or however long it takes for it to cause overheating problems...

But.. whatever you do, do NOT get an overdrive pulley, that would just make troubleshooting and problems worse.

On the Lincoln Mark VIII I used to have, which also had a 4.6 (DOHC, not sure if yours is similar), a lot of people had trouble with overheating. The culprit was usually air locked in the line somewhere. Are you sure you're "burping" the air out when you refill the coolant?

I looked on the Lincoln forum I used to post on and this was a method someone had posted for burping the coolant on a 98. Not sure if the engine changed much between then.

"Fill the reservoir until it is full then start squeezing the upper radiator hose and let all the bubbles come out

Repeat this process until the coolant doesn't drop in the reservoir

Start the car with the cap off the reservoir

Repeat the above process until no more bubbles come out."

when i changed the water pump i also changed my alt.. and took my underdriver aly pully off and replaced it with a normal sized... so it is over heatin with the OEM pully aswell

i burped it out many times.. to insure air was not inside the motor.

well, all else fails, take it to the dealer and have them ensure that if they do something to attempt to fix it, it better be under a lengthy warranty for how long u can go before it does it again.

Check your fan to make sure it is running when it should be. Check your T-stat, radiator cap, hoses to make sure they're not deformed. Could have a coolant blockage somewhere as well. The #8 cylinder is the dead spot on the mod engines. The DOHC problem was with B-head engines only, but you have a 2V so need to worry about that anyway.

All of this can be checked with a good scanner, and in your line of work, I'd assume you have one or have access to one. PLug that bitch in and run some diagnostics.

Could also be a bad coolant temp sensor which there are two of. One runs the guage, the other runs the CPU and tells the fan to come on or off and helps to regulate timing.

the other day i noticed that when it was over heating the fan was not on...

but the other night the fan was working just fine...

so i may have to look into the temp sensors.....

also when i ran the codes it told me.. that the motor had over heated.. and thats all. and of course i was like NO SHIT>

Funny that a guy who likes GM which is no longer even really a company is trying to knock on a Ford.

There was a reason no livery cars were Cadillac's as they couldn't keep them running. Not a problem with the Town Cars.

IT's okay Sean. They're built "like a rock."

So they all sink the to bottom never to recover.

Ford's intelligence, durability, and quality have proven just how "un-Fuct" the company is. There will always be haters, but as they say, "ignorance is bliss."

ugg...

so i didnt drive my car for a week.. i got a new tire and while the guy was mountin it on the rim he ripped the beed,.. and instead of behing honest he just got it to take air and gave it to me... so i took it back up there 2 times untill i insisted on him takin it off the rim and SHOWING me that the beed is fine.. well it was ripped.. so after losing a friend i got a new tire.. and i went for a drive yesterday..

started out well.. but then 30 mins in. my temp started to rise.. and i headed twored the house.

i pull in the drive way and GUSH.. once again... so i started checking all my fuses again.. they are all fine.. but my connection for the wires to the fan was loose.. to i plugged it in correctly and filled her up with wattter and gave her hell... the fan now kicks on just as the shit is getting hot.. but the gauge is sitting in the center...

so im gonna run royal purple water treatment claims to drop the temp 20 degrees,. and if that shit dont work im gonna hard wire the fan to be on when the key is on.

The temp is fine if it is reading in the center. I really wouldn't worry about it.

Don't bother with the RP, just go to your local store and get some Watter Wetter by Redline. You can't miss the bottle. It works better and is cheaper to boot.

i just went for another run... my fan id kicking on.. and it seems to be ok... but once it gets hot i smell anti freeze.. but i cant find a spray or a drip nor anything.. and its stayin in the center...

i have used water wetter before and it ate my heater hose up RIGHT AWAY.. i mean withen days... and it would not have been a big deal but as you know these 4.6 have the damn heater hose that runs under then intake and its a cunt to replace... so im tryin to stay awau from that WW

this is kinda pointless but for overkill ideas, you can always install an intercooler under your radiator. You might have to replace your radiator with a smaller one and a new fan but an intercooler will sure help.

Some people who race install nitrous kits that shoot through the intake system to cool the temps in the manifold ONLY. This method would be pretty stupid for you though if u had to use it a lot because nitrous isn't cheap for everyday use, lol.

cold air intake, intercooler, maybe a tranny cooler as well, a better oil cooler(as long as texas doesnt ever drop to freezing and you decide to drive short distances in freezing temps, oil cooler would help too.)

IT could be a small leak that is simply burning up. Your plugs will tell you the story.

Did you check the radiator cap and make sure it's keeping rated pressure?

My 2nd GM, first was a 68 Impala. And this one is most definitely my last. Momentary lapse of judgement when I bought it, complete piece of shit.
