Could use a little help

Recommended Posts

I have a 99 navigator that I just got and am getting ready to put a system in. I am strongly considering the FI BTL 18" sub and would like to get a fosgate t40001bd amp. However, the price increased from last time i looked so the t20001bd is probably in my price range moreso then the t40001bd.

I will be getting the sub fully loaded and am fairly unexperienced with high quality subs and amps. My first question is how does a single 18 sound and should I go with dual 1 ohm or dual 2 ohm coils.

Will the t20001bd (2000 watts rms @ 1 ohm) be enough to power this sub and make it hit the way it should, or should i go with a different brand of amp ($700 budget)?

Finally, would I need additional batteries or a HO alt with this amp or the amp you reccomend (The navigator has the stock alt in it currently)?

Any additional tips or information would be greatly appreciated as I am looking at ordering a sub/amp within the next day or so.

you would definitely need another battery back there.

If u cheap on cash, pick up a deka intimidator.

IF u got cash, i suggest a Powermaster XS battery, either the D5100, D2400 or D3100.

If you plan not to upgrade alternator, get either the D2400 or D3100.

If u get an upgraded alt, u can stick with a D5100.

the deka model number is 9A31.

high output alt, good ones go for around 500 give or take several bucks.

U do not need a fully loaded BTL with 2kw.***

I wouldnt suggest running more than that anyway based upon the questions being asked anyway.

***- but because they are giving away free cooling, i'd go ahead and get that and the Hixmcoil. The inner heat sink is optional if u wanna be able to play in the 70hz range from what i'm gathering according to the description since all my sub setups usually roll off steep in that area.

The 20001BD will do just fine. But, in the right box, the BTL could take that 4K all day.

You would probably want D2 coils so you can wire it down to 1ohm at the amp.

Also, it would be in your best interest to add a battery (maybe more) and upgrade your charging system.

Be sure to post your build!

Edit: Damn Shizzzon, you beat me to it :wacky:

Basically im working with about 1400 dollars give or take a little. I figure the sub will cost me 500 shipped and the amp about 550 shipped. So I have around 400 dollars left over to work with.

I think it would be in my best interest to get the powermaster xs d2400 then and leave the alt for now until I get a little more cash over the summer. I would get the d3100 but I need some money left over for wiring and a box.

I guess my finaly question is, with this setup how will the sub sound, the most bass I have had in my car is 2 MTX 7500 12" subs with a MTX 1501D amp.

- 1 FI BTL 18" Fully Loaded (Downgrading isn't an option as I may upgrade the amp in the future or add another 18 with additional amps)

- 1 Rockford Fosgate T20001BD amplifier (is there an amp that is of the same quality as the fosgate but more wattage for around the same price?)

- Powermaster XS D2400 Battery with stock alt

- 8 cubic foot box tuned to 32hz

If anyone knows in comparison how much louder this would be then the 2 12" 7500's please let me know.

My main issue is this is about all the money I have been saving and I am currently laid off, so I don't want to be dissapointed after spending all this money just to underpower the sub.

Edit : Should i also get a power cap/ capacitor or will the battery be enough? Also, this will be a daily listener.

Well the t20001bd is 550 shipped from sonicelectronix.com. I've personally never used sundown audio amps but would it be worth getting the saz-2000d to only save $85?

I was going with the fosgate because ive owned fosgate amps in the past and they have always been great quality and the warranty has always been more than fair. I don't know much about sundown audio but any comparison between the two companys on quality and such would be appreciated.

basically, if u have a problem, u can be guaranteed that sundown will get it repaired asap, and u can contact the company directly if any problems. Mainstreamed companies, u can only get ahold of people who have been trained to answer certain questions. With Sundown, u get to talk to the owner, :)

I really appreciate all the help you guys are giving me.

I think I've decided to go with the saz-2000d by sundown audio and put the other 100 bucks ill save towards the wiring and box.

Thanks to all of you who have helped inform me on alternate choices and what I will need to get everything set up.

My last question is concerning the box. I would just like to get a few opinions on what you guys think.

As I said before the car is a 1999 Lincoln Navigator with removable third row seating so I have quite a bit of room for a box. Would you guys reccomend going with a ported 8 cubic foot box tuned to 32hz and if not, what size box would you reccomend and at what hz tuning?
