Subwoofer Confusion

Recommended Posts

So, i've been a dj for about 15 years and i've never had a decent soundsystem in my car, i guess because of all the money i've spent on cds and records. finally, i have the expendable money to throw at a little sub and speaker combo, but i'm going to start with the sub.

Anyway, I have an Alpine CDA-9856 in an 03 Acura 3.2 tl type S, I'm not going to compete with this soundsystem, so i was wondering what the recommendations would be for a 10'' sub, and amp for around 500$. COuld my budget be lower for similar performance. Since i have worked a long time with audio equipment, i know that often times 500$ is right at the high level of lower end stuff, thats why i chose that figure. Of course I do not expect to get the best for that price, but i want something with more quality than the cheapest thing i could find.

Would I be better off with a single 8''?

I want the bass to be tight, and not boomy, subbass isn't my number one concern i.e. bass under 40-50 hz isnt going to make or break whether i buy the sub.

the place that is installing my Alpine, has recommended Power Bass Subs, but im sure thats what they are repping, and i don't know if that brand is worth a shiz or not. any thoughts on Power Bass subs?

thanks in advance.

I think an icon would be great for you. I recommend it,gets loud and plays all frequencies with ease. and for a amp get the Sundown saz-1000d.

Here is a combo deal for $539.
