Must buy for 07 and up tahoe owners

I was skeptical of purchasing this due to price, but really needed some better gas mileage. I have a 4.8 in my truck and the gas mileage was ~15.9, mixed highway and city. Plus the thing drives like a tank with a moped motor, so extra power wouldn't hurt.

Install took around an hour and was very simple. After cranking up I noticed a lot smoother, more steady idle. When taking off it really will get up and go now. Gives your engine a nice roaring sound.

But this is the best part.....

I am now getting 21 MPG :) :) :) .

That is not conservative driving either....... only thing left is to get a programmer and change some engine parameters to get some extra performance and efficiency.

Overall.... BUY IT. Best investment I have made on my truck yet, and it actually pays for itself...... if only car audio did the same. :rockwoot:

You are EXTREMELY mathematically challenged. No way, no how did you gain 5mpg from an aircleaner. I'll be the first to admit GM is dumb, but they are not that dumb. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if the stock air filter element had 98% or more of the flow of that K&N and of course the K&N ups the flow by filtering less. I am far from interested in running one of those in my vehicle.

I will be more than happy to take pictures off the MPG meter. It was reset on the tank after I installed, and the readings are true. I could not believe it nor could my father. He did the same with his diesel f250 and gained 4.5 overall. So far it is pegged on 20.5-21.00

Perhaps you should check this the right way. Fill the tank, drive, fill and figure out your mileage. You will find it didn't change at all.

lol, intake, exhaust and custom tunes are the way to go.

Warm air burns more efficiently, which is why we get better mpg in the summer than winter. Cold air intakes do the opposite of that. There have been cases of better mpg after adding K&N filters, but a lot of the time it's because the computer reads the incoming air differently and creates a more lean condition. So be careful about that. If you're getting more mpg it's because you're mixture is more lean. That can and will cause problems over time.

usually a tune fixes your a/f ratio so you wont run lean/rich if you have other modifications done to the vehicle, so i'd look into tuners for your hoe.

I get bad mileage period...... I doubt there really is a way to improve on it.

And yes, I drive very conservatively around town and keep to about the speed limit on the interstates. I still average 10-11 Highway, and 6 City.

THe K&N kit won't flow enough air to lean it out to the point of doing damage. even if it does, the knock sensors will pick it up and retard the timing and/or increase fuel.

Also, you are not doing anything in the way of removing heat from the incoming air, in fact, you're doing the opposite with this kit. The only way to have a "cold air intake," is to have the filter elsewhere from the engine bay, or the box sealed from the engine compartment. The K&N kit does not do this.

All in all according to the OEM mpg meter I have increased to 20.5 as it sits now. I will update after running a tank through it and do it the manual way.

I know for a fact, my dad has had a k&n and a tune and he increased mileage ~5 mpg in his ford f250 and he has not had a single problem out of it in 5 years.

So hopefully I will have the same luck :)

dang, what do you drive a tank?

a 96 Dodge, with re-buld motor and tranny.

I'm not sure how much or how little, but the rods they put in are shorter then the ones pulled out, and the pistons slightly wider. New cam, crank, and valves.

All this was done prior to me buying the truck, about 2 months, But I have sense pulled apart the motor to see if they were lying, and they were not. It all looks newer then the rest of the motor.

So you pulled apart the engine just to look and see if the internals were new? That was pointless as if the shortblock was rebuilt, of course everything was new. And why was it de-stroked? This equates to lower compression and less displacement even with the larger bore. Pretty sure whomever you bought the truck from has no idea what they are talking about.

Probably so!! lol

I didn't do it myself, or for no reason. I had to replace the water pump, so half the motor was already taken apart. It was me and a mechanic friend of mine. I didn't check to make sure everything he said was accurate, just to see if it was re built.

MPG meters tend to round...a lot...even my E55's is off by ~4%...best bet is always to check it manually, much more accurate...(or would the correct term be precise? whatever...)
