lights dimming After my Oz Audio

Recommended Posts

Anyway all i have right now is a Soundstream XTA600.2 600 Watts RMS and my Oz Audio Matrix Elite 15 and its dimming even with that.

I have been looking around and i cant find that many alternators for my car i had been recommended to call ohiogen to ask?

my lights have been dimming when idling especially when the air is on at the same time, i have a 1995 dodge stealth and they alternators are weak on them and i believe i even have the upgraded 140 amp ......it could be the 110 amp thought im not sure, but i was told that i couldn't go past a 140 amp that it probably cant be wound more than that....

I saw this

http://powerbastards.com/proddetail.asp?prod=Fitzall-220

It is supposed to put out 220 Amps at 1200 RPM

Is it any good?...or should i get a Kenetic Battery first i have heard that might help and i can get them at a good price

And actually i forgot to mention if im idling and i have the air on with my music the voltage will drop from about 14 volts to 11.5

That's no good. A 110 amp alternator should be plenty to keep that amp and the air conditioner running without much of a dip at all. If both the battery and alternator are original, one or both may be on their way out. You may want to go to Autozone or somewhere and have them test the battery and alternator.

thanks, actually the battery and the alternator both have been replaced in the last couple of years so im not exactly sure what it is, i might have to go get it checked because i looked today..i don't even have to have my system on, the battery drops from about 14 to 11.5 when i turn the air condition on by itself if im just idling...

Your air conditioner may be on its last legs. Sometimes they pull a bunch of current in their last days. Hopefully one of those things is the culprit!

Did you call PowerMaster to see if they have a unit for your car?

I think you should for sure find out the output of your alternator first. If it is indeed 140 amps, that's plenty for the amplifier you have. Even the 110 should be. You wouldn't need to spend money on a new alternator that way. Also, most stock alternators actually put out more current at idle than a higher amperage HO alt. HO alts are usually designed to give their full power at higher RPMs. So that's something to consider as well, if you're really worried about idle current capacity.

thanks for all the help guys, well i went to O'Reilly Auto Parts today and they did a test on my alternator and my battery...and it turns out that my alternator is only putting 30 Amps while idling that is terrible...looks like im gonna have to buy a new alternator ....

Ive even checked my self...with my system completely off i was sitting at a stoplight today flipped on my air just to see what it would do and my voltage which is just a rough estimate according to my pioneer head unit went from 12.5V to 10.7V...i cant even get 14.4 while driving with nothing on at all the highest i could manage was 12.5 Volts...

And to make things worse, the cheapest high output alternator that i can find is around $425 for my car

And even just a normal alternator is $225 or over i don't feel like spending that much on a 110 amp stock alternator...when i can get a high output that is around 250 amps for about double that. The only problem is i don't have $425 plus shipping to put out on an alternator right now that's a lot of money.

Here is my bad luck kicking in...lol
