2 12" Fi SSD's

Recommended Posts

Hey Y'all, im new to this (Forum) well im in the market for some new subs and dont have a big multi thousand dollar budget becouse im only 17 and am working on a farm this summer, well any way i was looking at some Alpine 15"s and was doing some measuring/planning and ive come to realize that i dont have enough or much room in the trunk of my 89' ford thunderbird so im just going to stick with 12's and after seeing/hearing vid's on youtube of the Fi SSD's they sound like some pretty good/stout subs for the money.

well i was noticeing that the subs have a rateing of 800 wrms and im guessing the maximum would be around 1,600-1,800 watts but ive been told these subs can handle a sh** load more power than that and i was thinking of getting 2 12" Fi SSD Dual 1 ohm voice coil subs and wiring each to 2 ohms by wiring each in series then wiring them back to 1 ohm and using eather a Power Acoustik BAMF20001/D which puts out around 1,200 WRMS and about 2,000 watts max or a Crunch (i dont really know if Crunch is a good amp) GPV2000.1 Amp that puts out about 1,000 watts rms and 2,000 watts max.

And another question is that what should i tune my box to? im thinking about 31-32 hz becouse im wanting something that pounds loud and ive been reading about these subs and im probly going to go with the Copper wound coil becouse im eathing listining to Rock, Country, Hip-Hop.

Thanks.

how about u start out with giving us a budget and some more info on what u are trying to get out of your system (not just substage)?

Yes I agree ^

Good sub choice, but you might be able to get a better amp for the money.

Yes they are rated at 800 watts RMS and if u now how to use your gain and volume knob they can take up to about 1000 Watts but no more.

If you are just looking for loud i wouldnt put the copper coils on I would do flat wound coils and if u want more than a 1000 watts from that sub you could put the BP power on it and it can do additional 200 - 500 watts of power.

Box size i think should be 2.5 cuft tuned at 32Hz

Well i can only spend about $800-900 becouse i need to buy a bigger alternator, new tires, and im wanting to get some performance parts i.e exhaust kit. that and ive still got to buy new power wiring (0/2 Gauge, terminals etc) becouse 2 12" Fi SSD subs with the Copper Coil is $413 and thats plus shipping which isn't bad. And what is a good reasonable amp that puts out about 1,200 - 1,400 watts rms @ 1 ohm or 2 ohms?

Sundown or Kicker refurbs are within that price range.

He meant good door speakers to keep up with the subs.

Oh, yes ive got 5x7" Eclipse speakers (upgrading to Components soon) but there clear and crisp along with a Eclipse EA4000 4 channel amp that puts out 75 watts per channel @ 4 ohms.

id budget kinda like this... (just an example)

deadening-raammat-150*

sub-single 15 fi bl w/ options-400*

amp-sundown-sae 1200d- 350*

total- $900

*estimated w/ shipping

**the only product i have had personal experience with is the raammat, i picked the bl cause u wanted something Fi for subs... and i picked the sundown cause i want to buy it for myself haha

Another thing im thinking of is when making my box, ive got enough room to mount two 15" SSD subs but they would have to fire up and the port fireing to the rear of the trunk. would that sound even better than 2 12" Fi SSD's? as in deeper, harder pounding?

well thats alittle hit and miss from what some ppl experience... sometime ppl run into a situation where the sub enclosure is too big and effectively "chokes" the path that the sound would travel from the trunk of the car to cabin... (unless u do a wall haha)

i cant say if this will happen to u or if u will even be able to get a box for 2 15's into your trunk... without actually building it in the trunk itself...

keep doin research before u buy your system! its not so much the equipment thats the issue... install is everything!

you can do 15's. Just barely but they fit. You should have 15.5" available in box height. I have an '89 thunderbird and have been though about 6 boxes. If you angle the front of the box that will give you more height to the baffle to mount the speakers. Either way.

I have (2) 12ssd's, I have run them sealed ( 1.6 cu ft each) hated it. Ran the ported at 2.25 cu. ft. each tuned to 33hz and it was pretty darn lund but a little too muddy for the rock i listen to with a lot of double bass drum. I now have another ported box with 1.75 cu. ft. per woofer ported through the rear deck tuned to about 39 hz and it pounds the rock. it has a ton of impact. It doesn't play a tone as well as the large ported box.

I have removed my trunk carpet so i have been able to (outside dimensions) 39" side to side and 15.5" tall. The front to back depends on how much box you need.

For a wedge shaped box I have found that 25 degrees matches the slope of the rear seat OR if you make the top dimension 6.5" shorter than the bottom diimesion it will be darn close.

i am not a pro at boxes but i can certainly help you with the bird specifics, i have had mine for about 12 years.

At this point, worry less about doing it different, and more about the install itself. :) The SSD's are a good choice, a pair of 10's is more then enough for most people. But also remember, that bigger or more subs does not always mean louder. :)
