Strapping Amps

Recommended Posts

Okay I am some what new to this forum. I have been reading it for quite some time now and see that everyone is pretty helpful. I have a couple of questions about the Fi Audio Btl 18. I see that it comes in dual 1 or dual 2. Well I have a kicker sx 1250.1 and it does about 1310 at 1 Ohm. I was thinking about getting another one and strapping them to power just one fi audio btl 18. Well from what I have read strapping the two kick sx 1250.1 amps together will give me a 2 0hm load which I unfortunately do not want but do you think I can connect either a dual 1 or dual 2 to the amps with out effecting the sub or the amps. I figured if anything it would effect the amp since I believe it would then be running at either dual 1 which would bring me to .5 ohm and running a dual 2 ohm would bring me down to a 1 ohm. So what do you think I should do?

I believe that I can connect the fi audio btl 18 dvc 1 ohm in series which would give me 2 ohms, however would that give me as much power as if I had ran the sub in parallel to a 1 ohm stable amp?

Buy an additional two kicker sx 1250 and another sub? (this option im not to happy about)

or do you think that I will be fine with connecting it at dual 2 ohm.

I am a little confused, its really late and I could use any help.

I currently have two kicker cvx 12"s connected to one sx 1250.1 and i think thats okay. I have them in ported boxes and it hits pretty clean and hard but now I want cleaner, deeper, and stronger bass and I believe and hope that just one fi audio btl 18 will give me what I want.

I have the kicker sx 700.4 powering my mids and highs and I would really like to stay in the kicker sx series if you were wondering why I didn't just go get a brand new amp.

Wire the sub to the recommended strapped impedance and you'll be just fine. 1 ohm vs 2 ohms has nothing to do with power output unless a certain amp produces more power at 1 ohm vs 2.

In this case, your amp is 1 ohm stable all by itself, but when you strap two of them together, you add the lowest loads together and that is what you MUST wire to. Buy the DVC 1 ohm BTL and wire it in series to 2 ohms.

thanks johnecon. i have another question for you which i bet a lot of people ask on here but I was wondering if just one fi audio btl 18" would be louder and have deeper bass then two kicker cvx 12's. I know you probably can't say yes until you heard the subs but I am just wondering if you have. I have my kicker in seperate 2.5 cu ft ported boxes and i am just very interested in having one sub that will out power the two. anyways thanks again.

There is no way to tell you which will be louder since there are uncountable variables in place.

For deeper bass, you should tune to the lower end of the ported box recommendation from Fi
