help with door speakers

Recommended Posts

Hey, I ran into a little problem putting in my door speakers. They're going in a 1999 honda Civic 4dr.

It's hard to explain, but i has pics! Anyways, with this honda the speaker doesn't mount directly to the door, but to the door panel....nvm just ckech the pics out:

As you can see, the holes where the door panel screws in is blocking how i would otherwise mount the speaker to the door and bring out of the door with MDF rings (need to come out about an 1").

Any suggestions? It seems like I'd have to cut off two of the three mounting place for screws to fit the speaker, but i'm hesitant to do that lol

I say cut them. Even if you have to put the stock speakers back in to sell it at some point, you can just mount the stockies to the MDF then. They don't have to go back into the original place. In fact, with the grill over it nobody would know whether they were mounted on the door panel or metal.

Ya I don't see a way around it, but I've never really dealt with door speaker stuff before. the problem with cutting it is that i'll lose two of the three places that the door panel screws into the the door.

Can you make new places for it to screw in?

If you can find the "Sound deadener showdown" thread, and follow the link to the site, it is stated that you can use butyl rope to make seals. His example was with the trunk seal, but i am fairly sure it will work for you.
