Direction sub faces.

Recommended Posts

I am working on my enclosure, and am wondering which way to face the sub. I have 2 options with my limited space, either face the back side of the back seats, or face the rear hatch glass. If I go towards the rear hatch, I cant get much of an angle towards the glass, it would be about 3" below the horizontal line. Sub in question will be a 12" RL-p.

u really don't need to angle towards teh glass firing rearward..

the general rule is facing back=louder , facing forward=better soundign..

imo, i don't notice much of a difference in which way it faces, though spl definitely changes. so depending upon what ur after, i'd say face it back..

what kind of car? jsut outa curiousity..

It is a scion xB. The reason my space is limited, is because I have 2ea. 3gal airtanks for the bags back there too. I am able to get a 1.5' box in there.

Thanks for the response.

Ok, well here are a couple..

rear speaker pods I molded in.

dash area, 7" tft molded in by me

stereo is jvc kd-dv5000 dvd /cd/am/fm..yadda yadda.. I like it, and I can close the door on the cubby hole to hide it. (well, now you all know where it is, so out with that..

Here is a pic of the scion after I got the rear bags installed.

I actually changed shocks in the back, and it goes another 1.5" lower.

Here is a pic of the box so far. The center plate, is just for reference for the angle of the sub. The 2 sides will be where the amps are mounted. Then center area will be 22'wide. You see the big notch I had to build for the tanks...

Sweet ride! All black with chrome wheels is so sexy! I just picked up the JVC 5100 and love it. You really can't beat the price, or the ability to record 1000+ MP3s on a DVD-R!

Wonderful choice in sub driver and you'll be satisfied most aiming up IMO.

Appreciate the thoughts. I ordered the speaker yesterday, so may be able to finsih this weekend. Looks like I'm gonna be close on the mounting depth, might have to jack the top up just a little, we'll see.

...and no, clear tails just aren't my thing. Since I'm not doing a jdm theme, they had to go anyways :)

Normally I don't like the Scion, but looking like that with the bags makes it look awesome. Nice job.

woot woot..got the rl-p 12 in today. :gift:

..and WOW :o , that puppy carries some weight!

SO..gonna work on teh box more tonite, and my last box question is: Is there a certain amount of distance, or 'minimum amount' there should be between the bottom of the magnet, and a wall of the box?

at least 1/2" IMO....more is better, less is okay...as long as there is indeed a gap there...and not necessarly for the magnet, but for the pole vent...(the hole in the bottom)

they are fairly heavy lil subs..lol..

Here are some updated (today) pics. Should have the box done sometime this week- or at least, ready to paint, and upholster.

enjoy..

Well, got the top of the box sanded, bondo-ed, and sanded agian. Loaded the RL-p, and gave it a test run. Now, granted, I am using a loaner amp that is not quite 300w, but i just HAD to hear it. I think my dissapointment is the box. I love the way it turned out, but as you can see in the pic below, due to my air-tanks, I had to raise the woofer up higher than I wanted to, so, I think what I am hearing is some cone noise..I dunno. I put up a piece of wood in between me and the speaker, and it sounded MUCH better. I should have a good amp in a week or so, and then I'll have more power going to it. In the mean time, I'm gonna try and think of another box design. Anyways..here is the pic..and I am open to suggestions on design changes, or confirmation that the woofer should not be that high.
