the 187s because the 8 hifonics can only be wired to 2 ohms per amp.

First thing u gotta do is find out how much volume u are gonna have. That will narrow your results a LOT quicker.

Once u find that out, the cheapest\loud ratio would be to go with 15s or 18s.

Me for example have 12-14 cubes NET, so i'll be goin with 4 15s.

If u could get about 20 cubes NET, i'd seriously think about gettin 4 18s.

I thought 4 single 4ohm subs would have a 1ohm load? Yea im not sure how much volume i will have, my intentions where to seal the car well and put up a wall right behind my seat and utilize the rest of the vehicle as the box,but then i have no idea how to figure out my volume for port tuning

they are single 4 ohm?

the name says 12d4, i assumed they were duals.

well, then yes, 8 12s would surpass 4 15s in cone area but... do u have the room.

Most 1s like 2-2.5cubes per, so 8 of them needs at least 16cubes NET

Yes I am going to try and run 8 of those 12s off two of my aq 1200s or if i can find a 2400rms amp for under 400 bucks ill sell this cause i would rather just run a single amp

you should probably build a box that just takes up most of the space

Well, i'm bout to do a 4 15 install in my car and i go ported all the way.

Tuned low for music and swappable for competition. In my install\opinion, if i'm gonna go loud, i might as well port.

The thing u gotta see is, if u do decide to port, do u have the room to port?

A box that large will have a port displacement around 3-4 cubes!

I'm not going to dig through all my magazines but I know I have one with an article just for you. It was about a doctor right here in the state of Missery : ) He wanted a sq system put together for comps but was worried about the SPL part of the competion (scoring for this division included db dragging I guess). The installers were creative with the port of this sub and using some worm drives (I think thats what they called them, maybe misspelled) to move doors attached to the inside opening of the port and that created the different settings for the box. Doors closed SQ, doors opened spl. I can't remember right off but I believe the port had enough surface area to eat up the excess area in the box to make the sealed box the right size for sq. It was truly a different idea and I don't think I have ever seen it in any other install. You said this was a daily driver so I assume this gives you some new ways at looking at this project.

Was this box like the Speaker Works Buick Grand National back in the early 90's.

I don't think so on the cars you listed. They called him doc roc or something. I never knew Fakuda did such a thing. I would say 96-99 timeline. Off the top of my head I can't recall the car but it was a luxury car and it was JL subs.

I might have to call you during your business hours Quentin. You might be able to help me decide on some of the SSA equipment for my ride. And ohh yeah some of them oldies are still the best looking out there. I loved the old griddle look of both the RF and Kicker amps. Have a couple of them stashed for my retro build that I have planned on my 83 Z28.

The store name sound familiar. The reason I know all the old times I was a manager at Mobile One auto sound in New Orleans. At the time we were the largest buyer of ALpine and Rockford in the nation. I think we were purchasing like 60 grand dealer cost of each every month. So we were lucky enough to have these guys at our disposal. I was able to go to several RTTI trainings, a few traings with Brian Smicth(SP?), a few trainings with Fishman, went to Alpines F-1 status training and went to CES and SEMA several times atthe expense ofAlpine and Rockford to mingle with everyone.

If you talk to Dave aka the Fish man I am sure he remembers PJ's. Drew had his own line of subs they were called Pro Tech. That it for the trip down memory lane. Sorry to thread jack.
