Wanted : a good LOUD SOUND QUALITY driver.

Recommended Posts

Wassup all. I was thinking about revamping my car audio and one thing I would love to change is the driver in my sub stage. I have limited access to very few mainstream drivers like Kicker and RF. Both of them have some decent stuff but way overpriced and I have noticed most of them are pretty boomy and lack definition. My goal is to be able to tell the different notes apart and have the ability for multiple simultaneous bass lines to be distinguished so you know they are playing.

I am looking at the Fi Q15 but am willing to look elsewhere in the 250-350 price range. My current amp is a Memphis MCD-1000. It is rated to put out 1100 watts at 1-ohm ( I know it can but it does distort a bit more than I like). In any event the Sundown SAE-1000 might be in the future plans. My second goal is to have some pretty nice levels of output. Ported options are ok. I would like to stay below 3.5 cubes of enclosure space as this is going in a '98 Malibu.

Thanks for replies :chat:

I have both the amp and sub you are looking for. The SSA Icon and sundown 1000d. Im selling both and upgrading to two 18" Xcons.

Its an awesome combo and is a pretty good price.

First off thanks for all he input. Second, I have to say living in the sticks is awful. I have not heard any of these subs and some I have never even heard of the brand. This brings my next question. Who or where is selling the AA Havocs cause I of course found the site but have had no luck finding some one that sells 'em or do they sell direct. If they fit the budget I must say they look tempting. I am curious as to the low frequency (say 20-30hz range) is like on any of the subs suggested. I know that sounds like alot to ask for in a post but as I say I can't audition any of them so I am hoping I make the right choice first.

Again thanks and take care of yo mamma's tomorrow. If you forgot.

Also thx for the offer Matt but I have the amp to start and I want a new 15. Warranties make me warm and fuzzy.

I would go with the Icon...I have gotten some just rediculous results from them

in the 20 to 30hz range....actually good results rights down to 10hz..very good definition of notes

I could feel the intensity of the foot pedal on the bass guitar with both the 10" and 12" Icons

and I don't think the 15" would be any different :fing34:

I was just looking at the SSA XCON's, :ehh: I know they are just above my limit but maybe they would be worth the small wait for. Anyone know what kind of a jump we are talking about in the SQ and/or output with these from the Icon's. Staying single 15" of course. Thanks again. :wacky:

I would consider a larger amp in the future if you think my amp will give sufficient output for the meantime. Not needing crushing output right away or anything. Thx again.

I vote this option. Save some money and get the Xcon. :)

Thanks to all who posted. Great info. This thread has run its course. If a Moderator would please remove it, it served me well.

PS. sorry for breaking the rule about SQ and L being together. More proper would be a term: Wanted: a Driver that can have realitively good quality at higher spl's.

Can't expect me to get em too fast cause I have not been to work since right after Thanksgiving. Railroad is slow and I may never get back until everyone starts buying new cars. None of ya have ever had more power at your fingertips than me I bet heh. 4400hp generators on wheels. I wish they'd let me load up a system on it. Imagine the real problem would be utilitizing the 77 volt electrical system properly.

P.S. How's that Core i7 running for you? Quad core not as pretty as an Octy but hey thats what they gave me.

I believe all the power that is useable on a 4400hp engine is around 3 Megawatt. Not very good for any spl I suppose. :coolugh:
