1 ohm amplifier for SSD 12

Recommended Posts

Ok so i was wondering if anyone here can reccomend a 1ohm 1000w RMS mono amp to use with a 12" SSD? I chose BP power and copper coil for the options. Also i was wondering if there would be a difference between 1000w RMS @ 4 ohm and 1000w RMS @ 1 ohm.

Right now its running 4ohm but the highs are not that loud. Lights dim more but its not as loud compared to lower notes.

So are you saying you have an amp now? running at 4 ohms? How many watts?

Lights are dimming on what you have now? what car? Did you do the big three? Good battery? Do you know how big the alt is?

when you say highs are not that loud, do you mean your main speakers, or the higher bass notes from the sub?

Yea i should have put down some info, i was just wondering about good 1000w RMS 1 ohm amps.

Ok here goes, car is a 2000 Hyundai Accent. The electrical is pretty weak. 80amp alternator. 650 ca batt 500 cca. no big 3. When i said highs are not that loud i was reffering to bass highs, all speakers are stock so i dont expect much there lol.

Ok for wiring i use RF 8awg for power and 12awg for sub. 80 amp fuse from battery. Amp is RF P5002 740w dynamic. doubt anything past 680w can get to the sub. Wired bridged @ 4ohm.

I was actually looking at US amps, not sure how good those are.

And thanks for all your help.

Pulling a 1kW at 1ohm (or any impedance) is going to require more than 8awg. You'll need to get your wiring up to speed before putting anything in.

What sort of budget?

$250-$300 is what i had in mind. The wiring is monster cable from battery to capacitor (saving for trunk cell or battery) and from there Fosgate wiring. Would it make any sense to keep the wiring and add a battery and then run 4 or 2 awg from there?

Voltage goes in the 13's with the car running and 11's turned off when it gets pretty loud. The higher the bass note, the less i can hear it and thats when the lights dim the most.

I know its only a single 12" but thats making me think i just dont have the juice to really play those notes. And once agian its back to the drawing board.

Stock electrical only the battery is different. Energizer brand 500 cca. I was looking at some power cells. Something like the Kinetik HC 600.

So you are pulling 1K with a 8ga power wire? hhmmm........... I would say upgrade this to start. Just for safety sake. Have you checked to see if maybe you are even getting rated power? Maybe the power wire cant supply the proper amount of power. I dont know just giving my guess on the subject. I know it really wasnt part of your original question. But truthfully i am not sure on that answer! Sorry man. Is there a reason why you want a 1 or 4ohm more than the other? Does you current setup not work with your system, or you just want it louder? Good luck with your search.

Well i was really hoping to use only a single 12" woofer, even if the box is a bit large. With two subs the high bass notes were much stronger, and these were not the best subs. Now i have better lows but the only thing high bass notes do is dim my lights a good amount.

So instead of upgrading the wiring from the battery i was thinking about adding a battery close to the amp and eventually upgrading the wiring from there and later on the amp. Thats if adding the extra battery gives me some good strong high bass notes. My rear view mirror moves from those notes the most and it's not very happy right now. The head rests are making fun of it.

I like this sub i cant just replace it cause i dont have enough power for it thats just wrong lol
