Why do you all love 10" subs ?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I would like to know why so much people want to have 2 10" subs in their cars ?

Isn't it easier to have just a 12 or even a 15" sub ?

In my country, cars are smaller than yours, but we prefer running one sub on one amp, than multiple subs setups.

I think it might be for the output, btu can you give me your opinions, please ?

Thanks all

not everyone wants 2 10's, majority run 12's and 15's imo, thats because box size varies from vehicle-vehicle and person-person, in my city most have 2 12's, some just prefer to be different and like to do a bunch of 10's, but i only know 1 guy who did that.

2 is better than one. thats why women come with pairs.

but seriously i think it has a lot to do with preference, thats why some guys buy an suv and lose all but the front passenger seat and throw in 6 18'' subs

I had 2 10's and they left a lot to be desired, but that probably had more to do with install and my preference to be loud at that time. Back then I had $ and wanted $$$$$$$ sound. Didn't happen.

I think people believe the smaller the woofer the tighter the bass. Might be true I dont know, but back in the day I had 8 8" sealed and it sounded great. Got ok loud, but the bass was tight as hell on rock.

I think 12's are just about perfect for 99% of installs with the right power/box combo, then there is the other 5% that has problems doing things in moderation. : )

It is all about space. You ALWAYS need to build an optimal enclosure for what drivers you select and regularly that will be for 10's depending on what space you have.

If anyone says it is about "speed" or what not they are dumb. Nothing at all to do with it, and if they bought for that reason they don't know their head from their ass.

Personally I love to watch the expressions on peoples faces when they hear crushing lows and retarded output coming from a pr. of 10's.

But I'm one of the crazy people. LMAO!!

I use 10's because of the WOW factor that you get from your "dumb" car audio enthusiast (people that think you need 12

i compete so i try to get the most surface area i can just happens that a pair of 10's has a slight edge over a single 12 also if a 12 can only take 3k worth of abuse you can use 6k worth of power on a pair of the same type 10's so slightly more surface area double the power handling equals more db's in a similar sized box

Your the "dumb" one I described above. Tight bass has NOTHING to do with sub size.

It seems as of late, people just want bigger and bigger drivers and smaller sub woofers, such as an 8" or 10" get over looked. I would be willing to bet, for 75% of those people the smaller single driver is more then enough for their needs, but the market has created this perception that bigger is always better.

I like my 15, but I didn't buy it because it was big. I bought it because it worked with the enclosure and power I already had in my vehicle. Also helps that it's one-of-a-kind in my town and proves people wrong about the whole "speed" issue. It plays everything I throw at it.

And that is a good thing. I was more referring to young, impressionable kids who see experienced people putting up big numbers, or "hairtricks" online so they assume that they need to buy big coned drivers also.

i'd like to think i'm still a young kid. i've only been at this car audio stuff for a few years, and when i started it was with a pair of 10''s. it was ok i supposed, but then i got 1 12'' and was hooked. then i got my other 12'' and was even more pleased. it had nothing to do with what the market told me, i just thought the 1 12'' sounded better, and 2 topped 1. if i'm not mistaken the world record holder did so with 1 sub, not sure the size. i think the guys who put in a lot of really big subs do so more for looks than for performance. i'm not saying they don't do it for performance either, but thats just my thought on it. in the end i think it still all boils down to personal preference. but denim you're right in that these beleifs that bigger is better hinders the chances for smaller subs, but what can you do?

You are talking about Alan Dante. 1 18" Digital Designs Z series and 24,000 watts.

My experience with 10s has not been awesome. I blew the first 10" I had and the next set got stolen a week after I put them in. I like 12s and 15s. Never tried 8s or 18s.

I agree with all of you guys who said its more fun to impress people with smaller subs. Plus running a single 10 or pair of 8's gives you more room to play with more creative enclosures

I like to impress people with an 18 inch sub. But I have to admit a few of them have imagined 1 18 being enough for a crazy hair trick... and it's just not going to happen. At least in a larger suv.

***on the same topic as the "wow factor" when I ran 2 15's people were impressed until I popped the trunk and showed them the woofers... then they feed the "well no wonder it's loud, look how big the woofers are"

I think people appreciate it more when you're loud with less.. my 1 10 at 149.7 db was impressive and drew a huge crowd at every show... my 2 15's at 153db were impressive but didn't get the attention of the single 10
