the technology that it incorporates that sets it apart from the rest...haha idk i dont think anything else on a sub is really THAT expensive...pound for pound though, if you've got a copper coil...the VC. lol

what a BS thread, but to go with the flow ill have to say the motor because tooling it from a block of metal aint cheap. The technology behind it and all the research might be worth more in some cases....then again the loudspeaker design didnt change much over the past 50 40 years

does anyone read? lol

and i second stealths request (as i head back to hca)

and "The technology behind it and all the research might be worth more in some cases....then again the loudspeaker design didnt change much over the past 50 40 years" sure speakers work the same way, but are you seriously trying to say that there's little to no research and testing that goes into speakers?

If by "magnet" you imply the whole motor and not just the actual magnet, I'd say the second most is the coil and what kind of configuration its in. Because really the motor and coil have to interact correctly to get desired results. You can't have an awesome coil but bad motor mated to it and have an awesome sub, and vice versa.

The magnet isn't the motor buddy ;)

To me the cone and coil are up there. Need to balance weight and rigidity on the cone. The coil needs to be light yet needs to handle large amounts of power and and have a high thermal capacity. Don't get me wrong motors are very important as well but i think in all reality its a big balancing act to make everything work together.

well, how much do recones typically cost for subs?

that should give you an idea of how much the company values those parts....

Re-cones vary by sub. $120-40.

For me the softparts are everybit as important as the motor. You can have serious driving force but if the softparts shred it does you no good.

Depending on the driver, steel can dominate the costs.
