Problem with XT4000d

I have this amp and it worked well until i let my friend borrow then i got it back and it doesnt produce any sound. The first thing i noticed when i turn it on is that it makes a clicking noise. I know what makes the noise its the black peice in the picture. it powers up but no sound comes out. What is THE piece and has anyone had this problem also is it fixable? I also noticed that if i set the input voltage to 9.6volts it wont make the sound, but when i turn it up above 9.7 it clicks. even at 9.6 volts it won't work. Also it only makes one click like a fuse and makes it when i turn it off.

Also the little white thing in between the 2 big black circles, i dont know what they are called i think capacitors?, gets warm when i leave it on i dont know if this is normal or not

i have a md1d and it makes the same clicking noise when the radio turns on and off so i think its just a thing to let u know the amp is on. i could be wrong tho. as far as the other question im not sure

Yeah....If im not mistaking I believe I have a clicking noise also on my XT2000D once it is recieving power. Could be wrong, I d have to go check really quick.

the black thing is a relay, if I remember correctly, just for muting so you don't get turn on and turn off noises, Greg will be able to confirm or deny it's use.

The whitething is a resistor, and yes resistors can get warm, especially high power ones like that

Ok the only thing is im not sure if it made the click before when it worked. I think thats what they are called relays, but relays are like fuses that cut power off right? I'm getting no noise outta the amp.

Is there anything i should check?

I've checked all connections and remote and everything, i was going to switch amps out then i found out it didnt work.

All big class D amps have such relays to avoid turn-on pop. And they all click when they turn on.

The black " thingy" is a muting relay used to interupt the output to avaid a HUGE turn on/off pop. And that white thing is a sand cast resistor used to bleed the voltage from the output filter caps to prevent you from frying yourself....

Im using my ipod as input like all my other amps just to test them out. I haven't gotten around to trying it out again im just scared of dissapointment again. Let's just say no sound, also i checked the voltage on the speaker outputs and they say like .004 volts. I also noticed a little adjuster thing and i turned it very little and saw that it raised or lowered the voltage at outputs? does this have to be set somewhere? It will also give a - voltage reading so im guesing it swithces polarity if i turn the dial down. I tried setting it at 0. Did i screw something up?

DONT FUCK WITH THAT POT!!!!!!. That is a DC offset adjustment that must be set as close to ZERO as possible.

Oops. Well i kinda figured it should be around there so i set it to .004 which is the closest i could get it. Could that be causing the amp to not work?

Sounds like you need to get an RA and send it in for service. The 4080 chip may be ba but I would not know untill I put it on the bench and do some tests.

Well i hooked it up again and it seemed to work! actually it worked. Now my questions how do i bridge it? The amp has + - - + and i asked the usamps tech he told me the 2 far outputs but they are both +. How do i do it?

The other thing this amp has is the speaker screws are stripped and wont tighten. I did buy this used ha

Im gonna say to bridge that Amp, in that +--+ setup

You connect the + wire to the first + and the - to the 2nd -

The 2 positives and the 2 negitive speaker terminals are common. It is already bridged internally.

I did notice that the - were common. It just seemed wierd since ive seen --++ as internally bridged but not +--+. Thanks.

Anyway to fix the stripped set screws?
