question (newbie kinda)

ok well here it goes i had to 2 15"s rockford fosgate punk rfp3415 or something like that hooked up to my 1600 watt amp, it was bridged so....that wasnt looking good after a day 1 sub blew, and the next one did the next day.

i didnt bridge them some guy told me to do it to get more power to the subs even though there 400 watts each.

so now do some new subs i was looking at fi subs and they look like the right ones for me.

that is my amp that my brother gave me. i'm kinda thinking thats why its to much power through 1 channel.

so my question is the amp that i have now is it good to power these subs and yes im getting 2 of them.

so is it compatible with my amp if not tell me why.

Well if you get those.......the RMS is the same as the max output of that amp.....so your not gonna blow the subs thats for sure. Watch your amp though....

Okay, first off NEVER EVER look at peak ratings on an amp. Always look for the RMS. Also, always leave your bass boost off.

320W x 2CH @ 2 ohms (640W) less than 0.5% THD.

220W x 2CH @ 4 ohms (440W) less than 0.3% THD.

You WILL blow your subs. Also, read this:

That amp really isn't the greatest to run for your subwoofers, but if you have your heart set on Fi I would pick up 2 Fi SSD's with D1 coils. Run them in series, one on each channel of that amp. That way you'll get 320w to each sub. Just make sure you understand what you're doing when you set it up. Understand your gain control and your volume knob. I don't think you blew your subs because of your amp being too powerful, I think you were clipping the signal pretty good. (You still over powered them)

as long as you set ur gains right, like those guys were saying, you will have no problem running the full power of that amp to one sub

If you follow my previous post, yes. I would suggest getting a new amp down the line though. Hell, I would much rather have 1 sub and a better amp compared to 2 nice subs and a crappy amp.

its all i got thought ...for now but im in need of these subs though, and also would i get the full power with my amp since the subs are rated 800watts ...and what is "dual 2 ohms", my amp only says 2 or 1 ohms

The specs on your amp say only 2 or 4 ohms. The DUAL part of the dual 2 ohm means it has 2 2ohm voicecoils which allows for flexibility in wiring options.

and i am planning on getting a new amp down the road bro, but i just need subs to last like FI, because i've heard things about them in good ways. my second best subwoofer is RF. but i was planning on buying those subs i posted earlier and getting a better amp down the road. i just want to know about this "dual ohm" stuff.

All subwoofers will last (few exceptions) unless you abuse them. The subs I recommended will work with that amp. It will also allow you to upgrade to a monoblock and run them at 1ohm down the line.

If you have one sub, yes. The dual just means it has 2 coils.

This link will show you how to set your gains with a DMM. Follow that when you hook your subs up. I don't see that amp putting out rated power, but it will work. It sure as heck gives you a lot of room to upgrade down the line though! Don't bridge that amp. Run one sub on each channel.

No, not good but if you set your gains right in the first place you wouldn't be in this predicament. I'd bet you'll follow the gain instructions and then think it isn't loud enough turn it up and fry your stuff again. Do the amp and sub/s at the same time and pay attention this time.

ya i think thats why they clipped first it sounded like it was blown then it went out about 45 minutes later. but it was bridged the guy told me to do it to get full power to the subs...regret that so if i run them in each channel it will run 800 each rated the sub?

and also do u think i ask a lot of questions i just dont want anything to go wrong like bass boost on the amp and stuff. i love BASS

definitely use a dmm untill you know exactly what your doing.

its not going to be really loud with jus 350 watts to each so dont turn your gain all the way up and def dont turn your bass boost on at all.

if you do what we say you should have no problem and wont blow your subs.

Don't listen to the bridge master. You're only going to get so much out of that amplifier.

You're looking at max power. You NEVER want to look at that in an amplifier. Look at sustained or RMS power. 320 watts per channel.
