I have an alpine mrv850d. 2ohm stable, but i just ordered a pair of d4 subs. so i can run them at 1 or 4. what will happen if i run at 1ohm? i know i ran my hifonics goliath and ED 9.1 below 1ohm with no problems. randomly my 9.1 would go into protect but if i shut it off for a second it was fine. but ive never owned a Mainstream amp like alpine

If it's stable at 2ohm, I would be very hesitant to run it lower. It's rated for a reason. If you do take that chance and fry it, you have voided the warranty.

EDIT: Your amp went into protect for a reason. It's not worth the risk, is it? Run it at 4ohm, or sell the amp and buy new.

Some amps won't let you run below rated, it will go into protection right away. I've ran an MTX 801d at 1ohm (stable at 2) but it would go into thermal protection in a short amount of time. IMO it isn't worth it sell it and buy a amp designed to run at the load your looking to run.

well im going to run the subs at 4ohm, thats only 500rms to the pair and ill see how it works out and then ill try 1ohm. if that doesnt work out, what is an affordable 800rms@1ohm or 4ohm amp

Sundown has an awesome trade in program.... Hint Hint....

Edit: And don't be afraid to get an amp that is bigger then what you need..... cause you can always do the unthinkable...... you can turn it down!!

or instead of trading the amp in on one that will work with your subs impedence, you could amp up your electrical a bunch. a whole bunch, gotta keep the current flowing if you decide to play below an amp's rated impedence. but then again, for the money spent for all that, one could just trade their amp in.....

just a thought.

wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee :slayer:

I got four words of advice,

Just don't do it.

I really hate to see people wasting their money.

Especially these days.

That amp will die and be worthless if you run it at 1. If you are lucky it will just go into protect, but I wouldn't wager on being lucky.

If you think the Sundown's are expensive in all those links then you are looking at crap most likely and shouldn't buy it either.

Maybe you should return your subs and get ones that have an impedance setup that match your amp, otherwise you need to invest a few hundred bucks in a real amp.

I've once owned an Alpine mrd-m1001 ,

this was 2ohm stable also ,I've tryed it to run on a 1 ohm load , it gave less power instead of more and heated up really fast !

be smart about it dont try to run it like that , you WILL blow up your amp .

375 dollars was the price for a 1kwrms amp in one of those links. that is expensive in my eyes. thats barely less then i paid for my hifi goliath. I was leaning more towards an ED 9.1 or avionixx 800.2

You pay for what you get, this is true in every aspect of life (mostly). Just keep that in the back of your mind.

Friends don't let friends by eD.

The refurb Sundown was less than that.

All the amps linked include shipping and the highest one is $350

The eduh is 295 + shipping.

You'll pretty much end up paying the same amount as the eduh going with the Sundown and end up with a better amp and better customer service.

So you are seriously considering buying an amp from a company that sent you one DOA and blamed you?????? All to save $25? Are you nuts?
