Replace 3-12q sealed with

Recommended Posts

currently i have three q12's sealed in a mazda 3 sedan firing through the rear seat opening i have a 1000 watt amp on each.

some of the choices that i have are....

1.) get 2 q15 and run them sealed firing into cab via rear seat opening 1000 on each (less weight than i have now and less current draw and should be louder) aprox 530.00

A. if i get these and i have an itch to eliminate trunk space i can go ported but i dont think i will have room for 2-15's ported due to lack of area in rear seat opening for 2 15's and a port so this not likely

2.) get 1 btl and ported obviously with 1000 on each coil. through the rear seat opening.

A. how much does it weigh i dont know how much weight i could save.

3.) just keep my current set up

4.) would one q15 ported be louder than my current setup and hit harder in your chest..( would save the most weight ans current draw)

the sound and bass that i have now is verry clean and deep. it still has the ability to impress me when the music hits hard and deep when i am not expecting it. i would like to have a little more output with less current draw and weight. and choice 1 or 2 would be it. unless choice 4 may work.

thanks for the advice for all that help

but your not stating anything wants....

if all you want is more output then i would drop one of those Q's and port two of them with 1 k on each sub,

how about save money and build a ported box for a pair of the twelves will be louder use less power and save a little weight you will also have a replacement sub and amp if anything was to ever happen.

well seemin as you already have the all the amps and subs your only gonna spend a few bucks and an afternoon on a new box...

your asking apples to pears tho....

will two 15 inch Q's be louder? umm yup...

and as far as running a amp per coil.... not a good idea IMO.

im sure you will be shocked at the output of 2 Q's ported try it first...

and as per the touchy part.. it was another day a long time ago... i had made the same push.... it maybe been when you were doing this build.

Just build a ported box for two of your twelves and get it over with.

I would port all 3 if i could. Less power to push them if they are in a good size box. Get a heck of alot louder. And still get very low. Id fire them backwards toward the trunk also.

this isnt me doubting you, its more just me wanting to learn... but why would you flip the box around if you ported al three?

is it because you would need more room for the ports to fit on the same side as the box?

From test's done the waves are more in phase with each other. read this.

That is why i would aim them backwards.

Generally boxes in a trunk are louder facing the rear because the subs load off of the back of the trunk. If you face the box forward some of the waves go back behind the box into the trunk, which can cause cancellation.
