Older Sundown 3000D?

Recommended Posts

I was wondering what the difference between the older 3000D and the New 3000D? Besides the casing.. Can the older 3000D be okay at .5 Ohm?

the heat sink is changed.

and the warrenty is void under 1 ohm...

but people do run them under an ohm... my question would be why?

for a daily set up the power gain from 1 ohm to half ohm isnt that great... your better off running it at 1 ohm. IMO.

i think testing showed the saz class holding firm down to 1/3 of an ohm if i remember correctly.... i could be wrong.

Jacob himself said the gain wasn't worth it running at .5 ohm load. Efficiency goes down the drain.

I was told running the amp at 1/2 ohm would get another 800+ Watts more.

While reducing the amps life. Even if you have badass electrical it will hurt it more than a 1ohm load.

Exactly, the meter would be the only thing that could tell.

Perhaps... but it would take more than 800 more watts to gain one dB -- less than one dB and you won't hear it :)

I ran one of my old case 3000ds at 1/2 ohm for a wile only reason I did tho was I wanted a single amp and my options were 2 or 1/2 ohm the amp ran fine deffinatly was more efficient when I ran a pair at 2 ohms 1 ohm each tho

i've had mine down to .5 ohms for a few days now, with rise to 1.1, the only possible problem ive had so far is the side of the amp where the rcas are gets warm now.

Does the side get really hot or just warm?

That depends on your electrical system, if it can keep up with the current draw you can run it at 0.5 ohms.

I was going with 2 PM 3100's and a 300 Amp Alt.

I measured it with a temp gun and the side that gets warm is only gettin 5 to 7 degrees warmer than the other side. with the other side staying the same temp as before i started playin music

How long were you playing before you took the temp gun to the amp? Also How long have you been running the amp at 1/2 Ohm?

10 mins at fult tilt music raised it 5 degrees. 25mins (first turned up half way. then the last 15 mins fult tilt music) raised 7 degrees. Its been about a week so far with it at 1/2 ohm with rise to 1.1 ohm
