Question on box calculation

If I were using the RE enclosure calculator, do I need to take into account the speakers displacement for the tuning?

Should I tune about 1-2 hz below my desired tune hz?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Also does anyone know what a Kicker L7 would like the box tuned to?

From what I've read, the L7 likes a big box tuned high. The range of 35-37 is what I see a lot of people tuning too. What does Kicker recommend? Also, have you ever thought about using paper and pencil to design a box? I find that is the best, and most accurate way. I usually let a calculator figure out my port length, but everything else is basic, basic math.

I looked on the kicker website and it doesn't give a desired tuning just size.

About how could could I draw up my own plans?

I have normally just used the RE calculator but if I can do it myself I wouldn't use that website

The RE one will work. If you goto JLaudios website and click the support button, it has quite a few how to's. It is a good, newbie friendly, reading if you have the time.

I'd just subtract a bit off of the width you enter to subtract the volume for sub displacement. So if you had a box with dimensions 20"w x 20"d x 15" tall, enter 18.8" for the width instead of 20, that would take out about .17 cubes for sub displacement.

However, if you are using the RE calculator for wood cutting dimensions, you'll want to go back in and change the width back to 20" after you get the port calculated, that way the dimensions are correct for how you actually want to build the box.

Thank you , that was what i was thinking of doing. So basicly what ever the RE calculator says it is tuned too it will slightly raise when I put in the subs correct?

Yeah. In a smaller type enclosure, like 2 cubes, it will raise the tune about 1 hert after the sub is put in. On a 4 cube enclosure it'll raise it about .5 hz. So as you increase box size it matters less.

The L7 is one of those subs that like whatever you like. Meaning they can be tuned to 32 to feed your low bass fire or they can be tuned frow 45

to 50 hz and hit sweet spl numbers. I pefer the 35-40hz range for street tunning.
