quick question about bass knobs

so i am going to get this out the way right now, if you don't have anything constructive to add please don't post. looking for serious feedback here. i am just curious and have an itch to know, so i am sorry if this seems like a stupid question to you guys.

ok so i have a pretty decent handle on car audio, been in and around the scene for years, but most of my expertise in in other forms of electronics, now my room mate and i just got done installing a killer system in a friends cadillac, and we only have 1 possibly 2 depends on how messed up the other one is of the bass knobs we need. they are for 3 older series RF bd1000's. any way my question is what stops me from using another brand knob if it fits the same specifications, it seems RF's knobs are all 45Hz centered and 0 to 18. so what other companies run similar knobs?

also, besides a possible loss of voltage what stops me from just using a 3 way phone splitter and running all three cable into it then the one plug out into the knob? would that burn things out? i know you can buy a RF branded box to do something like this, but is it needed?

umm... which idea? using a similiarly set knob or using a splitter?

the splitter, i dont see why that wouldent work, i was wondering the same thing myself. i might have to try it when i double my system.

the only thing i can see being an issue is voltage loss from controlling 3 amps with one knob, more or less thinking it might be restrictive. but at the same time i don't see why it wouldn't work. all i know is a loss in power is not acceptable in this case.

i couldent imagine it sucking much power at all. its just a remote knob.

its not an issue of power draw, more an issue about power blockage, thinking that trying to splitter the signal might reduce it some how. but again just a thought.

Sounds like you are looking to get a "Bass Boost" Knob. Which I would recommend not using, bass boost should always be at zero.

Now if you were talking about a "Gain" knob, that would be different.

well i am not truely sure if it is a bass boost or a gain knob, but know that to set it properly, you need to max out the knob then set you gain on you amp, that way the knob only boosts things in the range of the gain thats already set. now that would tell me its a bass boost style knob. not really sure why you'd suggest not using it, unless your setup is considerably different from the one we are working with. either way it still comes down to is there any reason this doesn't work?

by the way we have been looking into sundown alot can you give me any feed back on them as well?

Well if the knob has the 45Hz and 0-18 on it, I would assume it was a "Bass boost" know. Or, is it the double knob style knob? Lol Make sense??

Could you get a picture of it?

I love my Sundown amp, I am getting a few more for my build. They are great amps with amazing customer service.
