Box for 10" Q

So I have a 10" Q I'll be running about 1000 rms to. What kind of box dimensions do you recommend. I bought a prefab box for $20 because I figured if it didn't work, oh well I'm out 20 bucks. Well, the Q is a little oversized for the box so I figured, well, might as well just build one. What dimensions should I build it if I plan to run the above mentioned power? Is the .6 cubes best or would it be better to have closer to 1?

The internal dimensions should make around .72 ft^3 (0.6 + .12 for driver displacement).

That is 1244 in^3, so the internal length x width x height in inches when multiplied together should equal 1244.

These goldwoods are actually very nice prefab boxes.

That one is 0.85, but that is close enough.

That one won't work either. The Q needs 9.25" of clearance and that one is only 9 1/8. I wonder if I could find someone locally with a router or something to cut mine out to 9 3/8 or so.

You can always just file away until it will fit.

So here's a question I don't know the answer to. What happens if I build a sealed box bigger than recommended spec? Will it hurt the bass at all? I'm not familiar enough with box design.

The mechanical power handling will be less, and the low end response changes. Without going into a lot of details, the low end rolls off slower as the box gets bigger. do a search on sealed subwoofer boxes. There is a lot out there to read about them. . .

The difference between .72 ft^3 and .85 ft^3 is going to be hard to notice.

As far as the opening, you can open it up with a jigsaw, or it may actually be ok. The woofers can go in a slightly smaller hole if you leave the rubber gasket on. I have always cut the holes for the 12 spoke baskets smaller when I use a router and I am going to leave the rubber gasket on.

Well, The part that is getting stuck is the widest part of the metal spoke basket. There is a custom install shop about 3 miles from where I am at. Since I just moved down here and won't have room to move my tools down for a while, I'll probably see about having them take 2 min to trim it open slightly. I also need my firewall hole drilled because my buddy still has my drill bit and he's in Iraq atm.
